  • Dell (DELL) has warned that its operating profit will come in at $3B in FY 2014, down from a previous internal forecast of up to $5.6B, while its revenue will fall by $10B over four years. The dire outlook came in a 274-page preliminary proxy statement that seeks to persuade investors why Michael Dell's $13.65/share offer, which would take the company private, is better than higher bids from Blackstone (BX) and Carl Icahn, which would keep the firm public. [View news story]
Fun to watch but not to buy!

Is it possible that Mr. Dell wants to force the price of Dell lower so that he can buy it for less? Isn't this what stock manipulation lawsuits are made to prevent?

This is not Cyprus, it's the USA and the underpinning of the whole world economy. It is fools like this that create instability in the market. But, look on the bright side it may create a buying opportunity.

This is what is called an extended buying opportunity. Eventually they will have to reward the stock holders when the fed takes its foot off their neck.

It still helps to diversify the company. Let's not get too greedy here. There may come a time when GE will need GE Capital.

This is pure silly business. GE is a core holding and one of the best reflections of the US economy. If you have faith in the US economy you will continue to hold and smile. If not try something else...but you will be hard pressed to find a better core holding than GE.

Yes, that was my first reaction as well. There is nothing wrong with voting with your feet, especially if your in the green. There are hundreds of other stocks you can buy and GE is not the only stock one should be holding...but it is a legacy holding of mine, so I would have to have more than this silly business to sell. It may very well split in time, but remember that GE started and maintains a financial arm for some reason.
