  • Using Yield Spreads To Assess The Relative Value Of The Mesabi Trust [View article]
I bought clf shares at bottom, sold calls on half. I have rolled the calls twice. Now I am getting the yield on all the shares, while getting the call income. It seems like a win/win situation.

Agree with your analysis, I have been holding and waiting for the run up. Not much premium or volume on the options. Any option ideas?

  • Excessive Speculation In Apple Call Options? [View article]
I am an apple bull. Reality tells me there is 50-60% upside from here, if we go to 1000+. Then what? Dividends, yield? There are many stocks that will go up more than 50% from here that I can own, and do. 50% is 50% no matter how you are getting there. Does this mean all of us just want 50% return, and were done. Notta.

Wow, 17.00 for the 590, puts. Who buys these and why? As a put seller I am happy. But I just don't get that. Thanks for your option insight.

Write put options on other stocks, like CJES. Very solid stock. I want to own it, the 17.50 put was 1.64 for september. I collected the 164-8 for commissions. If I get put,I get a 5 pe stock at 17.50-1.50 for 16.00 a share. Then I can turn around and sell the call the same day collecting another premium. I would recommend you try the naked puts, on stocks, under 20$, look for premiums of at least net 1.00$

Example: 20$ stock, risk 2000$, premium less than 2 months, 1.00. 100$ divided by 2000$ = 5% return in 2 months. Annual return is 30%.

  • Qualcomm: Fetch An Extra 7.4% Or Get In At 48.60 In 7 Months [View article]
Another problem is brokerages, some will let you buy, but not sell. You also have to go through an approval process. The complex thing about the option sale is how it lists on my brokerage account. For some reason it is listed as if I purchased the option, until it expires. Listing my percentage loss or gain. Another strategy I use is selling in the money calls or put, of stock I am ready to sell, at or near expiration. This allows me to sell at specific strike, and collect the premium.

    I like being the Casino.

Sol, do know any good books that explain option selling, I am trying to explain this to some people I know. They look at me with glazed eyes.

I believe your plan is sound. The nay sayers don't really understand. 'leave it up to the pros' Hawkeyes 2011 is probably the pro, that doesn't want the retail investor to catch on. @ experienced, My commissions with Fidelity for selling calls and puts, is 8$. Seems cheap to me. It is best to balance, Long holding, Put and Call selling. Another strategy you can do, as soon as you get assigned, sell the calls. Again getting more return on the same stock. Don't knock it till you try it. I do it and like it.

  • 3 Reasons To Trim Apple And Buy Microsoft [View article]
I own both, selling calls on both and loving the income. Collecting dividends to, (soon on Apple). In that respect they are both a hold. It is difficult to trim apple, when 100 shares is the minimal call, that is 57K alone.

Like William I am a holder since 2006. I am selling covered calls, collecting a dividend and getting a return of about 23% over the year. I would get more growth if I bought more shares, but I am trying to build cash. Long SCCO.

I have been an owner of CHKM, since just after the IPO. Looking forward: all gas plays will get hit as the downgrades appear when earnings on 'real' gas prices are revealed. Right now we are 'living on the hedge'. I don't mind though. Sideways dividend stocks return the most money to investors. I may even buy more later. Long chkm.
