  • DryShips: Poised For An Upturn? [View article]
well written article, it seems that the author is well informed on this sector, DRYS and ORIG especially. i was surprised that the company did, in fact, stay afloat throughout this recession, evidently making progress, changing business structure and management of their fleet inventory.
However, management is evil, they look after their own pockets and wealth, while putting shareholders in the mud. Unless management changes their spirit for the company and their shareholders I am hesitant to put any more capital into this awful stock.

  • The G20 has backed an OECD report that would overhaul international corporate taxes and end the loopholes that enable major multinational corporations such as Starbucks (SBUX), Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL) to avoid paying large amounts of tax. A major target of the change is the practice of transferring profits where they are generated into low or no-tax jurisdictions via internal company transactions. [View news story]
amen to that.....finally they shot down the loophole

  • Tom Lydon Makes the Case for Small Caps, Corporate Debt [View article]
The Geoffster........With the respect to Bonds, Equities, Commodities, and the overall stock market and their overall run this past year we might consider the whole market overvalued. Simply because something had a good run does not reflect the sudden decrease in value. Yes, there are many individual stocks and many bonds that are overvalued but lets consider the fundamentals, structure, future performance, etc. before we bash the whole sector, as in this case small caps.
This is a very well article as it not only explains what has performed pretty well this past year but what could hold on to its momentum and Tom Lydon points out specific ETF's in mind.

  • Not Just for Sirius Investors: Goldman and Merrill Implicated in Manipulation Scam [View article]
Look out for DRYS. They are the next stock on the list where it is easy to loose your chump change or maybe your fortune. Follow the management and they will lead you towards the money. It is not only the facts and numbers of the company but its incompetent management that can destroy the value of your investment. In the case of DRYS follow the management and it will lead you straight into an empty barrel. Lets just say, " don't drill there."

  • Not Just for Sirius Investors: Goldman and Merrill Implicated in Manipulation Scam [View article]
Goldman Sachs and the like have gotten smart (overwhelmingly) for the original trading game. So, what is left to do? Make up something that little guys like myself can not understand yet make it sound simple and sweet so I can get suckered into their pity and greedy game.
Well, I try to keep it simple and trade companies that carry value, and stop playing for quick money and speculations evidently you will find yourself holding on the edge with no life line.
I have always wondered why a stock like SIRI has been under the $1 mark for such a long time and has never been de-listed from trading?

  • Micron's 1Q profit slips 24 percent [View article]
DRAM is totally pushing MU down the drain with that INTEL is dragging the company on its knees as well, since they can not sell their chips, and the obvious point is that the constant decrease in laptop sales are realistic overload. MU has noted constantly that their expense to produce DRAM has dramatically improved annually but it is unable to beat the crowd who is running away from its product.
I am hoping, at best, that the company will move faster towards the automotive chip market and grab the number one spot before someone else moves in and grabs the market. Management has mentioned few times since the 4th quarter earning of last year that they are pushing with that proposition since this is the begging of that market and the demand is righteously there for the grab.

    Disclosure: Long MU

  • Netflix CEO Reed Hastings Responds to Whitney Tilson: Cover Your Short Position. Now. [View article]
I did not take this article in such a negative manner as most of comments above but as an explicit opinion by its CEO. Yes, it is not a norm for a CEO to throw out his baggage into the public theater but again I have enjoyed his enthusiastic and emotional response.
Some may agree that all he has intended to do is to increase his share price and pride his company with set goals that are not realistically sustainable. However, He expressed his knowledge of why it is "gutsy" move to take the short side, but than again he did not disagree.
Hastings thesis did not indulge me into the purchase of those shares but to get the 10-K and make my own thesis and obligations for the next year. I conclude that his thesis was a great gutsy move but my research alone will go along way and just in case the stock tanks I only will have myself to blame or maybe I will not.

    Disclosure: no holdings

  • GE Raises Dividend for Second Time in 2010: Should You Care? [View article]
"investors should be focusing on the companies which already have a history of raising dividends, and no dividend cuts."

Point well taken. This is one of the things that Benjamin Graham stressed over to investors whom wanted to accomplish long term growth, unless you are a speculator than this is not your cup of tea.

  • Why It's Safe to Buy Citigroup Stock Once Again [View article]
Like someone has already mentioned, "its the economy stupid." And yes the economy is improving and it will keep improving, maybe not in the same pace as everyone would like but its getting there. With the economy, banks and financial institutions will prosper whether you pick JPMorgan, BaC, Wells or Citi, they will increase in value.
You may throw in the micro specific info of Citi like p/e and book value but for a long term investor Citi is a wonderful company that has incredible growth potential domestically and abroad.
With that said, I will be decreasing my Citi stake at the 5 $ mark. Many analyst point that Mutual Funds will throw themselves into this stock once it hits the 5 $ mark but you can recall Citi hitting the $5.07 at 04/15 of this year. And what has followed then?
Do not be a PIG, if you made some profits off this stock thus far pull the trigger and and sell "SOME" of your stack.

  • MSCI Index Performance: Poland vs. Ireland [View article]
Poland is one of the few countries that slipped through the recent recession and while their future remains bright primarely because of their centalized European location, educated work force, posite currency, and a strong banking sector, caution must be attained. I am very optimistic, and while they will be the hosting nation for the 2012 Euro Championship, that will support the inflow of foreign money, I am very pessimistic on the countries unemployment rate and Poles returning from places like Ireland because the lack of jobs as well.

  • With the lowest net debt to GDP ratio among G7 nations, Nassim Taleb says he's bullish on Canada (EWC). Meanwhile, likening America's bulging debt burden to a tumor, Taleb says spending its way out of recession has only exacerbated the problem: "When you give tranquilizers to a cancer patient, they feel better but the cancer gets worse."  [View news story]
Agree on Canada's bullishness as well. They indulge themselves to what they comfortably contain, unlike we here in America, we eat the goodies until we feel to the point of vomiting, we lack self control. This matter falls in line with Canada's containment on the real estate market, no matter how low the interest rates, availability of credit, they have kept their standards on the other end. Back home, interests fell to lowest point, banks were giving out greens for nothing, individuals were indulging themselves to what they could not contain, buying 500,000 dollar homes at a 35,000 dollar salary. Then it just gets too easy to blame others for your fall.
