  • Oncothyreon (ONTY +0.9%) gets a boost from Wedbush today, as the firm upgrades he stock to Outperform and raises the price target from $2 to $5. Wedbush says that its partner Merck KgA may be successful in negotiating a path to approval for Stimuvax with the existing and anticipated new data from ongoing clinical trials. Merck expects to provide an update on their discussion with regulators in 2013. [View news story]
ONTY subgroup data is very significant. This should move much higher after presenting at ASCO conference. Merck's remarks sound promising as well.

  • The Mystery Behind Unwired Planet Inc.'s Sudden Stock Jump [View article]
OK, Mr. Drossman, did you even read anything in this article? They DO have patents, and will have a very strong cases in the near future. If you want to be perceived as informed, inform yourself before you comment.

  • The Mystery Behind Unwired Planet Inc.'s Sudden Stock Jump [View article]
There really isn't much mystery behind UPIP's ongoing move. As the author stated, their patents are foundational to allowing mobile devices to connect to the internet. Their recent deal with Ericsson for over 2,000 carefully selected patents has further strenghtened their portfolio and future pipeline of patents, as Ericsson will continue providing them hundreds of additional patents annually through 2020.

Another reason this company is moving and will continue to move higher is their $1.5 billion, yes, $1.5 BILLION, of NOL's. These were built up over the years, and are now tax assets. They will offset taxes on income to the point that over 90% of operating income will drop straight to the bottom line! This is a huge asset!

Also, their cash position is actually quite strong. They've reduced headcount to around 15, sold off their cash-draining manufacturing operations, and will now burn through only $4-8 million per quarter, I believe they stated. So they have enough capital to shield shareholders from dilution for quite a while.

They've adopted a poison pill covenant, which signals to me that their assets are significantly undervalued by the market. Nobody can undertake a hostile takeover to take advantage of their assets. And even if someone buys the company, Ericsson has a clause to receive over $1 billion. So, that clause right there gives clues to the value that Ericsson places on their deal with UPIP. The company knows just how valuable their patent portfolio through all the feelers they've been given when they were pursuing strategic alternatives.

The best and most efficient way to get a feel for the company is to listen to their first analyst day from 3/12. It is very, very informative. It provides a quick rundown on what UPIP has done so far and what the future of the company holds. It gives plenty of reasons why funds are buying into their plan. The recent influx in volume has big money written all over it.

The only mystery is who is buying up the shares and how much value the company can unlock over the next few years.

  • Buy Millennial Media Prior To Q4 Earnings [View article]
MM has fallen off the radar of investors probably because the stock hasn't done much since it's IPO. However, I think this name will become more and more important because of their position in the mobile ad space and their ability to monetize it.

They are the leading independent mobile ad player, just behind GOOG and ahead of AAPL. So, I think one of the large tech companies like MSFT, YHOO, FB, etc will have to look hard at them. If a takeover never materializes, the company is well-equipped to remain a stand-alone company in the burgeoning mobile ad industry. They are very, very good at what they do.

  • 5 Small-Caps Loved By This Multi-Billion Dollar Fund [View article]
Great list. Love HAIN. Reported beat on EPS but a bit light on revs, caused small selloff. Been waiting to get in on this name. Added today. Great growth prospects with a small float of 48 mil o/s. Icahn owns 15% of o/s. He's been on a tear lately with his names.

Also should have some takeover interest from larger food processing companies looking for exposure in burgeoning organic market.

  • The Battle For Questcor Continues [View article]
Anyone who thinks this is too risky to play is crazy. The news today, aetna's small impact, and especially, the dividend and share buyback. If they thought they were in such trouble, would the company spend their cash to issue such a strong dividend and buyback around $130-$180 million or more worth of stock?

Ask yourself, if you saw that your future revenues were in grave danger, would you issue so much back to investors? Wouldn't you look around for an acquisition to supplement your potentially dwindling revenues to keep the company alive? Wouldn't you hoard all the cash you could? Only companies that are flush with cash and have no worries about future cash flow issue 4% dividends and buyback that much in stock.

This is a slam dunk. This will be back in the $30's before you know it. Absolutely no doubt about it. Enough with the "too risky" BS. This is an easy call. Don't say I didn't warn you. I will be allocating more of my portfolio to QCOR next week, probably Monday. GLTA.

  • What The U.S. Supreme Court Really Says About Vringo [View article]
Just went long here. I've been monitoring the situation for some time, and I like the risk/reward here. Technically, it looks like its about to break out for an almost 10% gain at the least.

I wanted to wait for a pullback, it did, almost pulled trigger at 3.15, but missed it due to my greed of a lower entry. Couldn't wait any longer, because if this breaks 3.35 with good buy pressure, we should see 3.55 relatively quickly. It's been building a base, has "bottomed" within a certain range a few times, and looks like it's ready to move higher now.

The most compelling piece of disclosure, to me at least, is the fact that Lang's patent mentioned the Culliss patent multiple times, and was still awarded as it's own. I like their chances here, so my spec allotment has been filled with VRNG.

GLTA, I will look to add as the price moves higher.

  • Mobile Advertising: The Next Big Thing? [View article]
I like MM a bit more than VELT and a lot more than any others. There is a reason why it is trading at a premium to its peers, even at the current depressed PPS. Folks will see why within the next year. Happy trading!

  • Vringo: How Mark Cuban's Large Patent Hedge Bet Could Make A Bundle [View article]
I've been a skeptic of VRNG of late, but, I've now become a believer. Everything looks in place for a huge win/settlement against Google. The reaffirmation of the Marksman hearing terms are about as good as VRNG could've hoped for. That's a big victory for VRNG.

At the Aspen Conference today, a Google spokesperson talked about how the patent wars are hurting innovation as well as the markets. I'll take it as good news that today Google publicly spoke of it's dislike of the US Patent system. Maybe they are a little peeved at the Marksman ruling that they basically lost recently, and therefore know they will again have to pony up some big money to VRNG?

It seems as though VRNG is going to score here. There is too much going in it's favor, and, the courts recently reaffirmed their strong position, which is music to the ears of VRNG shareholders.

  • How Much Lower Until Facebook Finds A Bottom? Lower Than You Think [View article]
Yes, FB could fall like MySpace did. It is very replaceable. I would not touch FB until it got down into the single digits, probably around $9/share. At that point, I would start looking at it. Just a completely overvalued POS that should still fall 50% more from current levels.

  • Millennial Media's CEO Discusses Q2 2012 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
MM is a monster, and all the analysts covering the stock have price targets between $16-20/share. Big upside here, and wait until the takeover/buyout speculation starts to ramp up over MM. That will be coming soon enough.

  • Millennial Media's CEO Discusses Q2 2012 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
Fantastic quarter for MM. Beat on revenue for the quarter handily, and raised full-year revenue guidance. I like what this company is doing, and I think it will either continue to experience strong growth with their international expansion, or they will be bought-out by a larger company who is struggling with mobile monetization .....*cough*facebook*c... and in all honestly, I think they have a good shot at beating their raised guidance come the holiday seasons, as I believe that the target advertising will start to explode during this year's holidays, because shoppers are very impulsive, and have less time to do more shopping every year.

If they catch a relevant ad on their phones, and it checks one of their needs, and is nearby....that will be powerful.

  • Facebook's Challenge Isn't Adding Members, It's Monetizing Them [View article]
    @scabballs,

I am suggesting what Facebook needs to do to capitalize on monetizing mobile, which is something they have had trouble adapting to, and is currently their biggest problem at this point. So, how is that off topic?

I understand your premise, and yes I did promote a company, but it is not off topic. It makes a lot of sense, and I'm sure they are looking at some of these companies. I, as well as many other analysts believe FB will buy one of the mobile advertising players.

  • Facebook's Challenge Isn't Adding Members, It's Monetizing Them [View article]
Facebook needs to buy the largest remaining independent mobile monetizer, Millennial Media. In market share, MM is second behind Google's Admob, and just passed ahead of Apple's iAds(formerly Quattro). Monetizing mobility is the next gold rush, and someone is going to take out MM soon.

    Yes, I am long MM.
