  • Cal Dive International: Turnaround Or Resource Conversion Likely [View article]
Your analysis is good and the point wasn't missed. I have a small stake in DVR (1,500 shares @ $2.00) and believe the most likely scenario is a turnaround.

"(Editors' Note: This article covers a stock trading at less than $1 per share and/or with less than a $100 million market cap. Please be aware of the risks associated with these stocks.)"

Editor has this wrong. Stock is trading at $1.74 x 97,500,000 shares. It is neither less than $1 per share nor less than $100 million market cap. Please delete this note.

"A patient investor could put some risk capital to work at the current stock price and look for the turnaround to ensure a decent return-eliminating the discount to book value would be a 33% gain."

If the stock is currently trading at two thirds of book value and it returns to book value, that is a 50% gain, not a 33% gain (1/3 divided by 2/3).

  • Dealing With Loss (The Monetary Kind) [View article]
CTL may be good, but I do not like dealing with the company. Their customer "no-service" department is bad and their products are inferior to what I was able to get from Time-Warner Cable. Because I don't like their products, I will never touch their stock. But I like LNCO a lot!

  • Gold/silver names open strong amid broader market drop [View news story]
I listen to Bloomberg radio on my way to work. When they are quoting the prices of commodities, they often leave gold off the list if it is up. It is always there when it is down. Even one of their ads, which they play all the time says "and gold is trading off about 1%." They want it to go in one direction, sub $1k.

  • There Is More To Iamgold's Dividend Elimination Than Meets The Eye [View article]
Ben, I enjoy reading your articles and this one was no different. As a CPA, I recognize a strong balance sheet and growth opportunities. So, I bought more IAG when investors put it on sale. IAG clearly has something in its sights that it wants to deploy this capital on. I have been critical of Letwin in the past, but I think he has done a good job in navigating through the gold price take down over the last couple years. Unless the world is satisfied with the amount of gold that has already been produced, then the price will start going back up, because miners will, of necessity, stop producing at these low prices.

  • Why The Price Of Silver Will Recover And How To Play The Rebound [View article]
    Steve,
You quoted AG's anticipated 2013 production from an old presentation. Their most recent guidance, from here http://bit.ly/19ObYA2...
    states:
"Furthermore, with year-to-date production totaling 9.4 million silver equivalent ounces, the Company expects to meet or exceed its 2013 guidance of producing 12.3 million to 13.0 million silver equivalent ounces."* I love this company and especially Keith Neumeyer, President & CEO. He is simply brilliant!

    * - Actually you are correct Steve, 12.3 - 13.0 million is silver equivalent. They stand by their guidance of 11.1 to 11.7 million ozs of silver.

  • Why The Price Of Silver Will Recover And How To Play The Rebound [View article]
@Chester, from a purely mathematical standpoint reducing the price of gold could get the ratio back to 16:1 or 10:1 or 9:1, but who's going to mine gold for $352 when it costs $1,200 to get it out of the ground?

I enjoy reading your articles Emmet, and still like the miners. I love the management at First Majestic (AG) and am heavily invested there. They don't come any better than Keith Neumeyer, President & CEO. I agree that a share price below $11 is a buy. I would actually say it;s a screaming buy!

@txwoodworker, I would be interested in hearing who has credence if not Linn's auditors, who are now subject to Sarbanes-Oxley. Arthur Andersen, "the gold standard of accounting," existed pre-Sarbanes-Oxley. Auditors do not function the way they used to.

I am eager to learn who would be more intimate with the workings of Linn Energy and have more credence than KPMG. Care to enlighten me and other responsible SA readers/investors?
