  • Salesforce.com: Institutional Investors Are Preventing The Short Thesis From Playing Out [View article]
Or move over 6% today! That was GREAT! Especially since I posed my short of it from yesterday. Stable institutional investors or manipulated BS based on PR and false hopes? CRM is like a religion to some.

I always figured that many got paid to promote certain companies.

So buy CRM if you like right now. It should go up again on a Monday rebound. I guess I could play both sides but I'd rather wait till the hype kicks in on the next inevitable PR announcement of their newest partner and after it creeps back up on hopes and dreams I'll likely shot them yet again. I've sold my shorts for a nice profit as noted below and am back on the sidelines.

    Fri Jul 06 09:55:52 2012 Sell 10 CRM Jan 19 '13 $145 Put Executed @ $22.25

Personally, I love CRM and this is why. 15% or so in a day isn't bad. I might have sold a bit early but lets not be greedy. Besides, you never know when the next press release will pop out.

Not all of us. . .

$10 says we caused that rocket in N Korea to fail. Ever wonder why there is almost no discussion on WHY it failed?

CRM has one of the best PR teams ever - buy puts after the press releases and sell when reality starts to drag this ship down. Don't hold to long as there will be more press releases. . . Rinse, repeat.

Interesting arguments regarding the institutional investors. However, CRM is volatile so someone is buying and selling it enough to make it substantially jump up and down in price.

Timing and time scale is everything; 2004 is a very very long time ago and isn't relevant to my trading today. CRM is up now so I'll be shorting it yet again. I've done quite well shorting it when the hype>>>trend.

  • How To Play A Bottom In Housing [View article]
I looked at these stocks this morning and found that they had already jumped up - at least in the short term - by the time I read your article. So I shorted LEN as a short term play. You may be right long term but this short is based on the theory that the price overshot with the recent good news.

  • Stop Worrying About The European Crisis With These 5 Investments [View article]
    URI has other worries:

    Debt/Equity 47.37x
    Price/Book 17.74x
all for a profit of only 4.88%

That is a LOT of leveraged (debt) for this to be offered as a no-worry investment! Anything that leveraged isn't going to be safe from global financial ups and downs. Anything that leveraged is, in fact, the exact opposite of safe.

NLY is the only one that looks interesting.

    Your mileage may vary.

  • Facebook (FB) is set to partly blame Nasdaq (NDAQ) for the poor performance of its stock after its IPO when it files a motion, possibly today, to consolidate all the shareholder lawsuits against it, the NYT reports. Lead underwriters Morgan Stanley (MS), Goldman Sachs (GS) and JPMorgan (JPM) are likely to join the motion.  [View news story]
The ones that pay off big time are usually the ones that are busy with innovation instead of the companies that are busy putting out PR releases and figuring out how much they can inflate their stock.

  • Hedge funds have doubled their net shorts of the S&P 500 in the last three weeks, reports SocGen. They're at record highs with euro shorts, and have turned net sellers of copper. "Waning support" makes the S&P and Nasdaq "highly vulnerable," says SocGen. Actually, it's the hedge funds that are vulnerable, writes Brendan Conway.  [View news story]
These would be the frat guys that now rule the world but once were in my easy upper level economics classes required for THEIR major. These would be the same guys that complained endlessly about how hard their economics and accounting classes were. . . There were very few science majors that cross pollinated into upper level business class but I have to tell you, these guys may be cocky, good in sales, and sometimes from old money, but they really are not as exceptional as they would like you to think they are - expect, perhaps, at beer pong. If you think they have your best interests at heart, you are a sucker.

  • Why Tech Stocks Are The New Value Investment [View article]
A lot of them have serious problems generating profits. FB, SalesForce, Groupon, etc are not Apple.

  • More on Case-Shiller: Things have improved, but "housing prices have not turned," says S&P's David Blitzer. Prices in 5 out of 20 tracked major cities hit new post-crash lows vs. 9 doing so in February. Prices in seven cities - Phoenix, Miami, and Detroit among them - are now seeing positive annual rates of change. (full report, .pdf)  [View news story]
My brother just put an offer on a 2 or 3 bedroom house (depends in if you want a living room) which had an asking price of 15k. To be fair, there is a code violation in the easement and it needs about $1000 of work done on the roof. . .

This house has been on the market for some time. . .

Agents will tell you that inventory is running lower and it is true that investors are more active, but things are still pretty bad. By the way, this house sold for 240k in 2007!

  • In spite of today's rally, Facebook (FB -5.6%) is falling to new post-IPO lows in early trading, and is once more taking related names down with it. ZNGA -3.9%. SVVC -1.6%. GSVC -2.3%. Investor unease with Facebook's reported plans to become a smartphone vendor could be playing a role, but the company's still-high valuation is a more likely culprit.  [View news story]
Depends on what you mean by "turn around"
