  • Jefferies' Peter Misek cuts his price target on Hold-rated Apple (AAPL) to $420 from $500. He's slashing his revenue numbers and seeing about a 25% chance the company misses Q1 guidance after Jefferies' recent supplier checks. "Historically when handset makers fall out of favor, they fall faster/further than expected." Shares -0.7% premarket. [View news story]
Just one of the following will make the stock price surge..a deal with China Mobile, iwatch, iTV, stock split, special dividend, increased dividend, larger screen iphone, cheaper iPhone for emerging market..and more than one event is likley to occur and yes I could not even get in the door in the Kingston (London) store at the weekend. These analysts should have their IQ's downgraded!!

The stock is trading steadily after hours, around $437, in other words holding it's gains.

Anything that gets the share rising will be welcome..whether it is a special dividend or a buyback...after all the analysts who were down grading today will be rushing to upgrade tomorrow, singing the praises of Apple and the short sellers will cover and the squeeze will push it high and for once we will enter a virtuous circle which hopefully will continue as long as this irrational sell off has done. Like a broken watch the market will be right eventually.

  • Credit Agricole's Avi Silver "downgrades" Apple (AAPL) to Outperform from Buy, while lowering his PT to $505 from $575. Silver expects iPhone sales to be weak in the June quarter thanks to growing competition ahead of a 5S launch (presumably the Galaxy S IV takes center stage here). He also doesn't expect an iPhone with a larger screen, which (like others) he considers "much needed," to arrive this year. Shares -0.8%. (Berenberg[View news story]
A cynical investor might suggest that these analysts downgrades to what is a screaming buy are designed to scare out the retail investor so their employers - the merchant banks can pick up the stock cheaply. I would suggest no such thing as I find the rating changes a very useful guide.....I just do the opposite

  • Intel (INTC) has held talks with Apple (AAPL) about manufacturing its (ARM-based) A-series mobile processors, a "source close to one of the companies" tells Reuters. The rumor comes shortly after Intel landed Altera as a client, and a report it had landed Cisco. Intel's manufacturing process edge - whereas TSMC/Samsung are at 28nm, Intel is at 22nm - could appeal to Apple. Reports have been around for a while that Apple is thinking of using its A-series chips in Macs, instead of Intel CPUs. [View news story]
So what is in it for Apple?

  • Apple (AAPL) is indeed thinking of selling an iWatch, both the NYT and WSJ report. Sources claim Apple is experimenting with iOS-based watches made of curved glass, and has discussed the matter with Foxconn. If an iWatch ever arrives, there's a good chance it will use Corning's (GLW) Willow Glass, which was created with bendable displays in mind. Former Apple UI designer Bruce Tognazzini recently predicted an iWatch will arrive, while providing a long list of apps/services it might support. [View news story]
    An i-watch!! Let's not be dismissive. I suggest we-watch!!
