  • Windstream Corporation declares $0.25 dividend [View news story]
This reminds me of Herbalife. One group of very wealthy "investors" has been trying for months to drive the price down through massive short sales. Another group has been quietly buying lots of Herbalife stock. Guess who has won so far?

  • Steven Donziger suffers another setback in his feud with Chevron (CVX) as his lawyer John Keker quits, saying Donziger owes him some $1.4M in unpaid legal fees. CVX is suing Donziger for allegedly creating a story about polluted rainforests and poisoned Ecuadorian villagers in an effort to extract a multibillion dollar settlement from the energy giant. Last month, the consulting firm whose supposedly independent research was the basis for Donziger's claim, disavowed its own report after CVX sued it for racketeering. CVX "can afford to litigate this case until hell freezes over," Keker says, "but Donziger can't." [View news story]

Balance, balance, balance ... diversification, diversification, diversification. Win is 5% of my portfolio. I intend to keep it at 5%. I have owned it in a DRIP for more than 15 months. I am still ahead. Win has a very large number of shorts. You do not expect that the negative comments have anything to do with enhancing the short's financial positions do you?

  • Chevron's (CVX) board cuts compensation for CEO John Watson and other top executives in the wake of a string of accidents since late 2011, including leaks at its Frade field off the Brazilian coast and last August's huge fire broke at its Richmond, Calif., refinery. But shares are up 11% YTD, better than most peers. [View news story]
An excellent idea that more companies should follow. Tie compensation to performance, performance, performance. Contrast this to government. In the latter, the bigger you screw up the higher your reward!
