  • Oasis Petroleum to cut 2015 capex nearly in half [View news story]
Why is this down going down the crapper this hard? It's still growing and they have big hedges. Is it due to the debt load? It seems that the market assumes this company will not survive the low oil prices.

  • When Everyone Is Saying Buy Oil Stocks, Expect Another Leg Down [View article]
I'm long OAS, I bought them due to their big growth at reasonable price. Now it's dropping like a rock. I want to take advantage and average down, but I'm in the dark as to how a smaller name like OAS is impacted by the lower price.
Can they survive these lower oil prices? Will their hedges take care of it? Or will they suffer and in the end, go down?
I don't have enough knowledge on oil to make the call. Any thoughts?

  • Bakken E&P Oasis Petroleum May Be A Good Buy On This Dip [View article]
David, thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
Where do you get those numbers $0.65 and $0.70?
I always use this Morningstar quarterly overview:

So I assume Morningstar shows the GAAP earnings, and you are referring to 'adjusted earnings'? How do you find the 'adjusted earnings'? In their transcripts I assume?

David, it would be helpful for me if you could comment on the Q2 EPS. I don't understand, this is a company which is growing at a fast pace, but Q1 EPS was $1.71 and Q2 EPS was $0.39. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Was it the capital expenditures? The hedges?

    Thanks for the article.

  • Retirement Strategy: The Absurdity Of Believing That Dividends Don't Matter In Retirement [View article]
This article corresponds with the book "A random walk down Wall street" by Burton Malkiel (except the book uses indexes instead of dividend aristocrats). I fully believe that if you are investing for +10 years, this is the strategy that will give you the best chances. Even more so if you combine it with value averaging.
It's simple and boring, but it works.

Rate hikes will be faster... so why did the 10year rate go down yesterday in reaction to this news? I'm getting burned with my TBT, I'm gonna sell them today. Long term chart is scary

  • Prospect Capital: Don't Ignore Concentration Risk [View article]
So much bashing on this article, that's very ignorant IMO. The author is only pointing out a risk of this stock, that's all, he's not saying it's a bad investment. Pointing out this risk is very informative, and I am thankful for it. I am long PSEC and I was unaware of this, it's good to know the risks of the stock you are invested in. Knowledge is power.
As many people already said, a BDC has a higher risk than blue-chip stocks, and that's why they pay a big yield, there is no free lunch.

With the market at all-time highs it's tricky to initiate this portfolio now, but I like the idea.
