Jeez what's with the hate WSDB... if you disagree with the author's opinion than that's fine, you can give some arguments in the comments to open a potentially interesting discussion, but to be snarky/trolling like that is rather childish... It seems like you have an issue. If you don't like the author's articles then don't read 'em.

Swapping my PSEC for PNNT today, I was tired of the lower quality mgnt by PSEC, I guess quality will always win in the long run. Except when valuations are stretched but it doesn't seem the case for PNNT.

  • Prospect Capital's Results For Fiscal Q3 2015 - My Assessment [View article]
Selling my PSEC today and swapping for a higher quality BDC... I didn't want to sell low but frankly I don't see why PSEC is worth holding, should've done better due diligence before buying.
Continued NAV declines, dividend was cut, all while the management profits. Where is PSEC going to be in 2 years?

  • Happy 6th Birthday, Bull Market! Can You Hang On A Little Longer? [View article]
My conclusion: a lot of people will have opinions, but nobody really knows.
    Nobody has a crystal ball.
When the next bear market arrives a lot of people will say 'I told you so, the signs were there!'. Each passing day so many predictions are made and bearish/bullish articles are being written, so some people will eventually be right, but it will be more 'by chance' than anything else.

    Well written article.

  • Gain Exposure To The Investment Plan For Europe With VGK [View article]
by the way 4,61% is also the div yield that Yahoo lists, so I guess they are using the same calculation: take the trailing 12 months dividends

  • Gain Exposure To The Investment Plan For Europe With VGK [View article]
To calculate the div yield IMHO it's better to add all the dividends from the previous year for VGK.

    So for 2014 it's:
    Dec 22, 2014 0.291 Dividend
    Sep 24, 2014 0.268 Dividend
    Jun 24, 2014 0.984 Dividend
    Mar 25, 2014 0.878 Dividend

    Sum: 2.421
    Today's share price: 52,53
    Today's yield = 2.421 / 52.53 * 100 = 4,61%

    The dividends for 2013:
    Dec 20, 2013 0.237 Dividend
    Sep 23, 2013 0.204 Dividend
    Jun 24, 2013 0.95 Dividend
    Mar 22, 2013 0.238 Dividend

    Sum: 1,629

BTW I fully agree with the strategy described in your article. Big contrarian balls and a long horizon give you a very good chance of having outsized gains.

    Nice article Dieter.
With this kind of strategy it's essential to keep calm and keep averaging down, keeping the faith.
My only concern is that you've picked 2 examples to prove a strategy, some could say this is cherry-picking. Do we have examples of country/sector ETF's where things really kept going south after an initial 40% drop (open question)? Maybe Argentina?
