  • Research in Motion Insiders Cashing Out On The Back of New Buyers [View article]
While all these reasons make sense, I don't think your short will play out they way you want. Earnings quality issues and insider sales are interesting, but the market doesn't really care about those issues right now.

You are trying to short a momentum stock without an identifiable catalyst. Good luck!

Most of these are crowded picks. Too vulnerable to a short squeeze. You need to go back to the drawing board.

  • Real Estate: We'll See Blood in the Street Before This Bubble Bursts [View article]
Most of America has little or no net worth without their house. If they don't sell, they can't get out of debt. This will be a huge mess for years.

  • Reading Into the Viacom/Google Suit [View article]
Paul - I'm tired of all these, "you just don't get it" bits. I read the lawsuit and I don't think they will settle this. They can build their own websites with clips, they don't need YouTube. Viacoms content is valuable and they don't need a middle man to distribute their material directly to consumers.

  • NovaStar: Are the Shorts Right For the Wrong Reason? [View article]
    Hey Herb,

There's no footnote by your performance numbers that says, "Stock went down for the wrong reason"! It went down. That's all that matters! It's all good. (except for the employees...)

  • Apple: Biting off More than It Can Chew? [View article]
Tim - I know you kind of chicken out at the end about shorting Apple, but in my opinion, Apple really isn't a good short. Sales and margins are strong. They are gaining market share and the company has a slew of new products. There are better shorts out there right now.

Lots of people said no one would buy a $1,500 tv either when you could get them for

  • Yesterday's News: Time To Short Goldman? [View article]
Hi George - While I agree with you that it will be very difficult for the financial geniuses at GS to repeat this year's performance, unless you have a specific catalyst that will take the stock down, this should prove to be a very difficult short. Goldman has become the Google of financial stocks. To smash the cult of Goldman you need more than insider trading and overvaluation.

  • Long Yahoo, Short Google: Why I Think This Contrarian Idea Will Work  [View article]
Dan - This is a pretty good bet. I advertise my websites on both Yahoo and Google, but I get better results (more paying customers) with Yahoo. Yahoo seems better positioned to land the big national advertisers - the car advertisers, the burger guys, etc.

If Yahoo can get its act together, this idea will turn out to be a good bet.

  • A Different Take on New Home Sales [View article]
Barry - Why don't you report all the good news in the housing sector?? You fail to mention positive developments...Howabou... the fact that all those new homes come with indoor plumbing?! Ever think to report that? Didn't think so. That's a huge development!

Instead you dwell on the negatives...
