Apple: Biting off More than It Can Chew? [View article]
Tim - I know you kind of chicken out at the end about shorting Apple, but in my opinion, Apple really isn't a good short. Sales and margins are strong. They are gaining market share and the company has a slew of new products. There are better shorts out there right now.
Lots of people said no one would buy a $1,500 tv either when you could get them for
Apple's New Series of Releases Full of Limitations [View article]
Paul - We've already discussed the fact that 640x480 isn't that far from DVD quality. Apple will probably up the resoluton next yr. iTV won't ship for xmas isn't a big deal. Why rush out an incomplete product? We've seen plenty of tech companies kill themselves because their product was rushed. Apple is taking their time.
They probably need time to nail down a few more movie studios as well. They sold 125,000 movies the first week. Kids are watching movies on their computer instead of doing homework.
Microsoft Zune's As Good As Dead On Arrival [View article]
Was this a surprise? MSFT can't even copy successfully. How pathetic!
Maybe the chumps who buy the Zune can use the wireless feature to download the software patches and service packs they'll need to get the thing to work properly.
Why Apple's iTV Will Fail, With or Without Google [View article]
Davis, I believe the iTV product has a HDTV connector in the back. The new wireless standard is designed to transmit HDTV. That's where Apple is headed.
Apple will put "near DVD quality" movies on the web for the first couple of months to drive holiday sales of the new iPods. Early adopters and people who travel for a living will d/l a ton of movies. I'd rather pay $13 to d/l "Pirates" to watch on a flight than to buy a bunch of magazines on the airport newstand.
When iTV is ready to ship, Apple will upgrade the video (for free). iTV will be a huge product next holiday season.
PS - Near DVD quality is not that far off from DVD quality...
