  • Opaque Transparency: Dissecting Apple's FY 2015 Reporting Changes [View article]
Apple seems to be one of the few companies which has provided very solid numbers over time. As the saying goes 'no good deed goes unpunished'. Their accurate reporting of units sold seems to have been used against them more often than not. Other companies in similar positions seem to have benefited PR wise more often than not by hiding their real units sold numbers. Seems like there are no rules requiring specific breakdown of numbers so Apple is probably wise to not give out numbers which could be ammunition for some argument about their success or failure at launch. It will be hard to hide a big success if they have one but some people will be hoping they fail with a new product category so no reason to give them ammunition right off the bat.

  • Apple: Something Extraordinary Is Certain [View article]
I like the way you are thinking. What would a good reason be to keep so many workshop titles vague and teasing at the same time? Of course they better deliver something but I don't know if the stock price move afterwards will make any sense compared to the revenue profit implications of what they announce. The split and the buyback make current moves hard to appreciate. Obviously more than a few analysts are raising their price target estimates even before these announcements so it is hard to see how they figure in to the analysts thinking. I look forward to Tuesday but expect the usual mixture of delight and disappointment that seems to come with Apple announcements and the price of the stock.

  • Apple Has Regained Its Mojo [View article]
That 793 number doesn't include any adjustment for the cash on hand. Although I end up at 787.50 (43.75 X 18). I doubt Apple PE will go that high unless they really introduce a new large revenue stream. Of course I think Current Apple P/E should at least be 15 which gets you to 656.40 not including the cash. Post split that looks like 93.77. With the buyback and dividend should be worth a bit more without any new product revenues increase taken into account. Maybe June 2nd will pleasantly surprise us as well.

  • Apple Stock Price Likely To Peak Before Long [View article]
I skimmed this article looking for something that showed the Author might be on to something but I don't see any specific knowledge about Apple any different than he has had in the past year and a half. Yes the author may be right a sometime in the future about the direction of the stock but for the moment I am happy he has the same position he had before the move we had in the last three days of trading. With the stock split and WWDC announcements coming next week his article seems outdated even if Apple slides on the news after this rise on rumors. I don't think people realize that a move like today's 11 dollars a share rise would be a 1 dollar and 57 cents move which doesn't sound as dramatic. If Apple just gets to have an average stock PE it would be higher than it is now. Any upside to its performance with IPhone 6 and current products plus some of these new initiatives does not seem priced in

  • Apple Is Acquiring A Fad - Not Quality - And That Is Troubling [View article]
Only thing I can say about this deal is wait for the actual announcement before complaining about the details which have not been confirmed. Deal may fall apart now anyway with all the publicity. If the revenue growth and margins for Beat are correct then Apple is not risking very much for this deal. All this drama seems to be overwrought.

  • When To Sell Your Apple Shares [View article]
I think you have to look at Apple as an ongoing enterprise which is currently generating annual profits around 42 dollars a share (pre split) and both the buyback and the dividend are ways to keep retained earnings from accumulating as undervalued assets. The market seems to value these cash assets at less than par and was demanding Apple do something with the cash rather than just sit on it. Some people even argued it meant Apple was worth less if they kept the cash than if they figured out how to distribute it. The buyback and dividend are both designed to shrink the cash pile to levels that Apple feels comfortable with and reward shareholders while focusing the market on current performance. No good deed goes unpunished. They may never hit a point where there is no buyback of some shares in place if they are successful. At the end of 2015 I expect Apple will add to the buyback if the company is doing well as well as increase the dividend annually in small increments. If the stock price rises so the dividend drops to say 2% then the company will most likely have the profits to increase the dividend and add to the buyback.

  • What Is Satya Nadella's Plan For Microsoft [View article]
    Maybe millions instead of billions

"Apple's (AAPL) iPad dominates the tablet market and its sales increased from 32.4 billion units in 2011 to more than 70 billion units in 2013"

  • Microsoft Just Killed Itself, Apple Wins Again [View article]
Maybe this is more of an admittance that there is more money in Word software for Microsoft than money in hardware with the Surface. Certainly would ruin one of their advertising lines against the IPad. They may have to defend the more profitable business.

Your impressions of the new Samsung phone seem accurate. It does look like Apple has a big opportunity here if they can keep the manufacturers performing. Not sure how accurate your statements about Profits of Samsung speeding past Apple's are or were. Unit sales yes but profits not so much. See this article from Forbes.

  • Apple Would-Be Shorts: Bide Your Time, Apple's Run Will Be Over Soon Enough [View article]
If the only question about products price and sales is how much the materials cost to make it and labor to assemble it and there is no quality difference in the end result then I would give Mr. Blair more credit. We all have access to writing instruments but very few of us are best selling authors.
The reason I have liked Apple as a company is it doesn't make commodity devices or experiences even if it competes in commodity businesses. They earn the margins they have by providing me good overall value in saving me time and energy using their products compared to the competition. If you don't value your time and efforts to use a product after you have purchased it then the competition looks more attractive. Most of the time Apple's solutions are time savers and very flexible (at least for the user) so the experience makes me a repeat customer.

  • Microsoft's Powerful Plans Spell Major Gains For Investors [View article]
Great graphics but some info is misstated. If windows phone progress is so good then tell us how many units were sold. If they sold a small number of phones and then sold 3x as many it still a small number. Percentages are often used to overstate something's significance. I have been looking closely at MSFT for a while and still haven't come to the conclusion it will grow fast enough to impress the market.

  • The Apple Analyst Is For A Turning [View article]
It is interesting that he (Misek) is basically calling for about a 150 Billion dollars increase in market cap (at least from his low price target). That is quite a large change in the upside potential from September. The new phones have only been on sale for a few weeks and Apple hasn't even announced new Ipads yet.
