After receiving a bachelors degree in Communications I worked for several years in the financial sector in Canada, for banks, insurers, and asset management companies. I am a fundamental research focused value investor at heart, but I trade using options and other strategies for income in specific accounts. I follow the energy and materials sectors and the most of the TSX particularly closely but keep an eye on the broader North American stock market and global macro picture as much as I can. I also enjoy researching under-followed small-cap companies. I am an MBA student at Dalhousie University.

Over 30 years working in financial services industry that included working for a large mutual fund company and private wealth management firms. Worked in investment communications/marketing role supporting fund managers and interfacing with clients. Experience includes market analysis, asset allocation, manager analysis, portfolio analysis and stock selection.
I participated in the creation of financial derivatives, beginning with the introduction of Eurodollar and Standard and Poors futures at the CME, and including the secondary market trading of OTC swaps. I have established and managed trading desks in these instruments and managed MHT Futures, Inc., one of the first bank subsidiaries to clear futures. Today I teach and write about the need for market-based innovation in these seriously flawed markets.
I am a former technology entrepreneur with over 10 years of experience in trading equities, bonds and options. My investment style can be described as risk-averse opportunism. I believe that markets are rife with inefficiencies that can be exploited to generate outsize risk-adjusted returns.
I recently started a hedge fund that trades a data-driven quant strategy; we are not soliciting new investments at this time.
