And, Nick, you did say 143.95 P/E?

As of 6/30/09 S&P was 23x earnings according to S&P. Factoring in last four quarters, S&P P/E is 15.25 times reported earnings.

  • Pace of Insider Sales Continues to Escalate [View article]
8/27/09 S&P500 ended @ 1028.23. Divide that by earnings of $143.95 and you get S&P P/E ratio of 7.1x. Seems much too low. Need to check the earnings number.

And, Nick, you did say 143.95 P/E?

To answer you: This is the earnings of the S&P500 not the P/E ratio. You need to divide the S&P500 number on any given day by these earnings.
