I don't know if I would say that they're a total scam, but if I did, I'd say they were a total scam with potential. And in any potential, there lies a profit.

  • Gold miners rack up sharp gains as dollar slips [View news story]
I've never believed that gold is money. I believe that it is a commodity. If it were money, there would be a value stamped on each coin stating its value. A gold $50 coin buffalo is not a $50 coin. It is a one ounce piece of gold shaped like a coin for easy identification. It is a commodity and its value changes daily, unlike money which is worth exactly what it says on its face and is used as currency in our daily commerce.

User - I think you may be more right than you know. The world fiats are definitely being propped up by this system somehow. All physical PMs will make a fierce comeback when that bottom drops out. The only question is when?

Boulder - My thinking is that one day we will wish gold was as high as $1,120. It wasn't too long ago that many of us were happy when it reached $1,000. IMHO gold will reach $980 again within the next year with silver to follow.

Olds - I always buy the 1oz bullion eagles or the 90% coins. They're on Ebay all day and almost always you can buy them at or below spot.

Skeptical I - You are partially right. I am an investor with a trader mentality. But even in an investment, profits have to be made. Why let $$$ sit dormant even for awhile when they could be turning profits? Then when PMs begin to make their move, you jump from the "traders ship" and get on the "start buying investment ship". This way you stay active, alert and your $$$ won't deflate when you're not looking.

  • Despite Negative Press, Zynga Has Long-Term Potential [View article]
Many of us are Nay Sayers hoping the price would hover in the low to mid $2 range so that when we get ready to buy, we can lock and load for a longer term and make a few bucks back from the $$$ we lost on the last round. Should have sold at $4.50 but didn't. Got busy and lost almost $2 per share. To get it back now, I gotta double buy. Gotta leverage my losses. So, let's go Z, put some $$$ back in our pockets.

SLW has maintained about 130% value of silver. One key element in this equation is the value of silver. I know of no indication that silver is going to improve in value anytime soon. So why buy SLW or silver or any precious metal for that matter until there are indications that conditions in PMs are going to improve? Some industry has got to start buying & using silver in very large quantities on a continuous basis or else values will remain passive. Why on earth would anybody want to invest in a dormant inventory? Track back 6-8 months SLW values and you'll see how much $$$ you would have let sit idle or even lost.

I agree with you on what the gold/silver ratio should be, but in reality it is not. And until someone comes up with some new uses for silver, IMHO prices will remain where they are.

  • J.P. Morgan likes three pair trades in volatile gold mining sector [View news story]
If I were to buy SLW today at $19.92 and silver remains below $16 and gold also stays below $1200 then SLW will stay below $20. There's nothing that will cause SLW value to increase until PMs increase their value. It appears that silver will keep a relationship with gold at about 75:1 and SLW will keep its relationship with silver at about 1.25:1. In the long run, SLW will probably do fine but why let your investment $$$ remain dormant? I agree that SLW is a good value buy today. But if you feel the value of SLW will remain a good buy for the foreseeable future, then why buy now? If PMs remain where they are for the next 6 months, then buy SLW in 6 months and use your $$$ for other investment income.

  • Silver Wheaton And Silver Prices [View article]
There's still a good chance PM's will drop another 10%-20% in values with little to nothing in the way of new usage on the horizon. Inventory increases and usage remains stagnate. There may be some hint of increased use in the medical and technological fields, but no significant volume to affect its price.

The best information I could find is: (Washington, DC – July 31, 2014) The Silver Institute today released a report titled “The Outlook for New Electrical and Electronic Uses of Silver.” The report identifies three key potential growth areas for silver demand: flexible electronics; light emitting diodes (LEDs); and interposers. These three growth areas combined have the potential to add another 20 million ounces of silver to total demand by 2018. (That's 4 years down the road.)
