  • Will Sapphire Help Apple Retain Its Smartphone Leadership? [View article]
Exactly. High end watches use sapphire to protect the face. For Apple, expect them to use it in their upcoming iWatch.

  • Why Apple Is Becoming Irrelevant [View article]
I was looking at a new Samsung Galaxy the other day at Best Buy. It was BIG. Almost silly looking big given it's (dare I say primary) function as a phone. It's build quality felt ok, but not as solid as Apple. I may be a stick in the mud fuddy duddy, but this notion that Apple MUST create a bigger screen is a bit silly. It's a phone. I put it in my pocket, and I don't want to have to buy parachute pants to do that. Apple is busy churning away in their skunkworks, still filing patents for some rather intriguing things. Do we have to see revolutionary products every quarter for the haters to back off? We don't need an iMiracle. Let's see what Apple does with the iWatch, iTV and whatever iSurprise is lurking behind the curtain before we use words like "irrelevant" when describing Apple.

  • Is Gold As An Investment Finished? [View article]
If we sold all of our holdings in Ft. Knox in one day, would that be a "good" or "bad" thing for gold? Would that be an act of strength or desperation? Would that signal confidence or fear? Just how many times can we or any other entity play that card? I'm just some guy out in flyover country, but I'm not worried about gold. Of course it **could** do this or that, but the question is does anyone have confidence in the US government getting a grip on its budget deficit and debt problems before it's too late? I'm afraid it's going to get worse (and gold will go UP) before fiscal responsibility is forced upon us...austerity. Not intending to get political here, but thank God for the 2nd amendment otherwise we might face confiscations like the Cypriots did when the days of economic reckoning are upon us. Owning physical gold as a hedge in uncertain times is a no brainer IMO.

  • Ford's Stock: Buy Or Sell? [View article]
Ford is simply a buy. I bought at 10 not that long ago and haven't looked back. It is poised to break into the teens IMO. BUT... I agree with your caution about the cyclical nature of auto stocks. I'm watching closely during this shaky "recovery." Thanks for the nice, concise article.

  • "We think that Apple could be on the brink of driving a major leveraging up," writes JPMorgan's Mark Moskowitz in a voluminous note defending the stock. He believes the company will take on $15B-$20B in debt and bump the dividend yield to 4%. As far as operations, Moskowitz expects an earnings beat this quarter and upward pressure on estimates for 2013. AAPL +0.9% premarket. [View news story]
What to believe? I have to say, given the wide variance in opinion between "experts," I think I'm going to just follow my instincts here. Campuses are overrun with Apple products. This is a generational shift towards Mac, away from PC, and it is only accelerating, not decelerating. I myself own 6 Apple products, not because they're hip, but because they're solid and work seamlessly across devices. The Apple skunkworks are still churning away (seen any of the USPTO filings lately??) Much of the data out there might as well be tea leaves. Staying long AAPL has been a gut check for me, but I think it will pay off. I'm buying more today.
