Monster multiples in some utilities. I wonder how long it can hold up. What do you think is a fair p/e for a utility in a climate like this? I think maybe 10.

Take a look at the balance sheet Adam and you will see that they have $349 million in long term debt.

Take a look at the income statement and you will see that interest expenses alone eat up operating margins.

When/How do you expect this company to become profitable?

  • Why I Finally Went Short Gold: Dodd-Frank [View article]
    Another great catch!
So many people in this market have gotten steamrolled!

This author hasn't even posted since July 5th
    seekingalpha.com/artic...

...I think we all know why.

short gold? Why would someone do that let alone recommend others to do it. There's no less than 1,000 other EASY short positions/recommendations that these authors could take or make but yet they continue to bait people into standing in front of an oncoming locomotive.
What prize do you get for calling the gold "top"?
    Be smart people.

  • Debunking Myths of a U.S. Monetary Collapse [View article]
Thought provoking article. I don't agree with most of it. It's not really possible to argue that the American dollar is not losing and doing so rapidly. In recent times no economist has ever tried to make this argument to my knowledge.

Year/Avg Wage/Cost per Gallon of Gas/Number of Hours to Obtain
    1985 / 7.64 / 1.20 / .16
    1990 / 9.56 / 1.16 / .12
    1995 / 11.39 / 1.15 / .1
    2000 / 14.83 / 1.35 / .09
    2005 / 17.04 / 2.00 / .12
    2011 / 19.40 / 3.63 / .19

What's your guess as to how many hours of labor will it take to buy a gallon of gasoline next year Tim?

The fact that there are still a lot of people who think that all of the bad economic news is just a small blip tells me that we are only at the beginning of the next leg down.

You keep buying and I'll keep selling.

I think the author said it best when he said, "In short while this is a "sigh of relief" number for today and probably prevented an all-on crash this morning..."
We just have to take it week by week. Hopefully 3 out of the next 4 months will show good numbers.

  • Molycorp May Surge to New Highs After Second Quarter Earnings [View article]
He's right. It's not a typical mining stock. It is a speculative stock. Why else would anyone pay $60 a share for a company with $100 million in annual revenue with negative earnings?
