With due respect, if you get better sermons here on SA, you might just consider swapping your church... (and I'm not saying SA does not give food for thought worth as a sermon)

Very good arguments for a way of life as a DGI investor. But wouldn't it be even better, simpler, more trouble-free and just as well profitable to adopt the attitude of buyandhold2002 who says he does not ever sell any stock he owns?

I'm really curious about your opinion and pros and cons.

Anyway, thank you very much for the glimpse into your personal experiences as a trader and later as an investor. It is articles like this that that makes SA worth reading. And of course the stream of comments by you, wise DG folks!

    Thanks for this Mr DG50!
It would be good if many would follow your example of flaunting their portfolios publicly. I would say that 50 is a bit too much, especially if its value is 25k but it may be ok for educational purposes.
A very Marry Christmas to you and all the DG folks here!

    I agree with your bet.
IMHO you can buy Exxon any time and you do not make a big mistake if you hold it long enough after that.
If you ask me which is the one single company of the current SP500 that will survive 50 years from now, I would say, my guess is Exxon.

    Neur,
As the article suggests, the point is not timing the market and trying to get the bottom but buying value at a good price, which is the case now, IMHO.

Chuck, since your last article on the subject company I been following IBM and this time I got convinced and purchased a position for long term holding. I am pretty sure I will not regret it. I am much more relying on your analysis and opinion than on my own. You don't have to be smart to make good decisions, it's enough to listen to smart people:)
Thank you kindly for sharing your wisdom!

    Mike,
Thanks for the article which is very helpful and encouraging, at least for me. I like authors sharing their failures in order to help others (even if/especially if this case worked out as a partial success:)
Looking forward learning more from your experieces...

I would like to replace WMT in my "hold forever" portfolio with something "better". My candidate is VTR. Higher yield, higher DGR etc. However, I am concerned about its BBB rating (Morningstar). Anyway, how sure can I be that VTR will keep increasing its dividend in ten years just as it did ten years ago?
