@Paul ... I do like your reasoning here. I believe that I share the exact same sentiments, but definitely would not have been able to articulate them as clearly and as empirically as you have.

@Paul. I enjoyed your reply. Perhaps it was just luck on my part, but my reservations about IBM helped me avoid the recent ride down from the $180's to the $160's. The question is, do I believe in their ability to successfully restructure, enough to re-enter at these price levels? Tempting, given the dividend stream, but I just don't know. Are there specifics that you can point to support a more bullish stance?

Hi Chuck, I am a huge fan of yours and a long time loyal subscriber to FASTGRAPHS. One factor that currently keeps me away from IBM is their long term debt to equity ratio which stands at a whopping 144%. For reference, CVX is 13%, CVS is 34%, KO is 56%, MCD is 88%. As I read it, IBM is struggling to re-invent itself and borrowing heavily to do so. Until I see signs that IBM is achieving in this endeavor, I will continue to avoid it. I found the following article very informative. http://reut.rs/1pIPWGk

  • Will This Mortgage REIT Become A Dividend Raising Machine? [View article]
Color me strange, but I actually welcome dissenting comments, even rude ones, just as I welcome market corrections. Market corrections, just like forest fires, clears out the rot and makes for healthier and more robust environments. In some twisted way, dissenting comments, every very negative ones, can also be helpful. So Dave22q, here's a toast to you! In response, allow me to say, "IN BRAD I TRUST !!" I have been a subscriber to his newsletter from day one and have done well following Brad's recommendations and analysis, and learned a LOT about reits to boot, thank you very much. I have no doubt that Brad is not infallible, and therefore expect him to make bad calls from time to time, but I also have no doubt that Brad is extremely knowledgeable about the reit space and puts in great effort to deliver his best recommendations. Again, in case there is any lingering doubt, "IN BRAD I TRUST !!!!".
