  • AMD's Ambidextrous Approach Grows ARMs [View article]
Even car makers try to minimize their production costs with switching to common base for their different models.
AMD had chosen the very opposite approach - she switched to ambidextrous approach and she follows this way not being competitive in her main, x86 market as well as not being in good financial shape. The only consequence of this way, as I see it, will be R&D growth and margin decreasing.
BTW, we passed thru the very historical moment: NVidia's income per a Q. was tangibly bigger than AMD's one w/ consoles. It's a fun to recollect what analytics projected back in 2006, right after AMD-ATI deal.

  • The Scariest Graph I Can Show AMD Shorts [View article]
JJ: "Two of the larger growth drivers for AMD are also happening in the GVS segment: consoles and professional graphics.".
    Really?
Let's loot at reported Q1 figures.
"Graphics and Visual Solutions segment revenue decreased 15 percent sequentially .... GPU revenue increased sequentially ....".
It's possible only in case of the huge drop of console sales during Q1.
Based on consoles sold in 1st week of April (~250MU) we can calc in that for the whole 2014 we'll see ~13MU, or if the end of the year will be much happier for consoles, it may be translated in about 15MU.

  • Here's What The Buy Side Expects From Advanced Micro Devices Thursday [View article]
~$1.343B in total revenue means that we may see ~700M$ for CPU+GPU. That's the catastrophe of the AMD's core business which has much higher margin than the consoles part.
BTW, according to vgchartz(http://www.vgchartz.com), the global sales of XB1+PS4 consoles dropped to ~250000 boxes per the first week of April. It bring in about 13MU per the whole 2014 year, much lower than it was projected on the launch of consoles.

  • AMD's Dual Graphics: Power And Efficiency For Mobile Computing [View article]
    @Luongo,
Yes, it's expected. Now we see TDP and die size.
AMD's dual graphics is of very small factors for profitability. Most of money comes from Intel side and here NV will have a winner.

Looks like AMD will have big problems starting from Q2 on mobile GPU front.
    http://bit.ly/1hP05Qr
BTW, the die of GTX-860M is 33% smaller than that of GTX-770M.

  • New Technology Proving Its Worth For Advanced Micro Devices [View article]
Relax, guys, with the launch of GeForce GTX 750/750 Ti , AMD's share in d.GPU has started deteriorating since Q1 even more. These NV's very power-efficient chips are those what all OEMs were eager to see and now they are eager to have them.

  • Nvidia's Tegra Business Collapses [View article]
Hibben: "But the scarcity of AMD's cards because of Litecoin (and other Scrypt based currencies) was well known and widely reported ".
Strictly speaking, it was widely spoken y AMD bulls but we saw, and we were shown, nothing supporting this point of view, just bla-bla-bla. Last Q. (and that Q. includes Jan and does not include Oct.!) real income of NV from GPU sales showed very clearly all that bla-bla-bla were nothing real. It was jsut hype of AMD bulls .

Hibben: "to $0.131 billion in revenue".
131M$ would look much better. Is not it? :)
And, btw, it is three times more than AMD managed to get in from server chips. Why nobody says about AMD has completely collapsed on server front?

  • AMD Vs. Intel: The Next Big Technology Race [View article]
Neosephiroth: "the dGPUs go without saying!"
Your naive speaking makes me smile. AMD and NV do their d.GPU on the same 28nm TSMC's process.

  • AMD Vs. Intel: The Next Big Technology Race [View article]
The comparison of A10-7850k vs. Intel i5-4570R(Iris Pro) (http://bit.ly/1cyq6Oc) clearly shows off how efficient Intel's graphic is. And, BTW, Intel built her graphic division from the scratch, w/o bulk (5.6B$) of money which AMD poured in into ATI. Does anybody still have a question how AMD had to develop her GPU business in 2006?

NVidia did 1.14B$ of income in her last Q. It's more than the AMD's Q4 income for cpu+gpu(w/o consoles)! That's the first time ever! Really it's the inflection point!
Where are the breakthru sales of AMD 280/290 and other gpu chips? Where are bitcoin, litecoins etc money surrogates which, we all were promised many times by AMD bulls, should had propelled the AMD gpu sales up?

Rech: "I generally don't look at historic performance when I evaluate an investment ".
I do and I see that NV has the seasoned CEO and the whole management team.
That I can't say about AMD. Rory's team is just two years old to get into any serious conclusions. The previous AMD's management had totally gone due to his bankruptcy.

Would it not be much simpler and more constructive just to provide the reference with figures instead of prolonged speech? Would it?
