  • Update: Indonesian Government Makes Absurd Demands Of Freeport-McMoran  [View article]
you wrote article on FCX using collars to protect against down markets; yet FCX doesn't tell/advise Indonesian government to hedge.

so RI has to accept lower export revenue as CU prices go down; higher export revenue when markets go up

the trick for any government is to protect the downside; becoz they have to budget

FCX & other US/European companies still behave & treat SE Asia as their economic colonies

Open pit mining is not exactly rocket science; China can always step in if FCX is not game

We want US companies working in Asia to have Asian values

  • Goodyear's Cash Drives An Investment Grade Rating  [View article]
Goodyear's 'supposedly strong' cashflow will be undone if South East Asian rubber exporters stop extending Goodyear Tire 150 days deferred payment counting from Bill of Lading date.

Moody's conservatism is correct & will be vindicated

  • Cooper Tire & Rubber: Take Profits As Apollo Tyres Bid Gets Shaky  [View article]
shares in Apollo on the Indian Exchange (Bombay) tanked 26% after the news.

Given that CTB long had a poison pill ostensibly to deter hostile takeover, this is nothing short of CAPITULATION by management in Findlay.

Apollo may soon find that the only factories worthwhile are those by Cooper Chengshan in China.

Did you know Apollo long ago had already outsourced some of their orders to tire factories in China?

if only the Cheng Shan factories are worthwhile for Apollo, that makes CTB's factories in Findlay, Texarkana etc2 & Avon , UK worth no more than the scrap metal value, CTB's 20-30 year old tire manufacturing equipments will fetch in the steel recycling markets

yes, great point about CTB's unfunded pension liabilities; similar to what Goodyear Tire is facing/staring down.

Apollo had not considered the unfunded liabilities for CTB's pensioners; which will be a time bomb

it would take forever for Apollo to write off Goodwill; which would hurt Apollo's earnings for quite some time !

  • Hormel's Dividend Looks Poised To Grow  [View article]
McD & KFC shortchange Chinese consumers on fries. I challenge McD & KFC to come out with weight guidelines on small, medium & large fries sold throughout China.

There'a a spud glut in China & farmers are throwing away their spuds to hogs; rather than spuds rot to waste

    typical ugly american biz tactic

all about earnings, but the Elephant in the Room for Winged Foot is pension fund liabilities

would Pham care to elaborate further on that?

will GT have to declare Chap 11 to break up legacy contracts?
