Digital pathology can do more multiplexing now, from 4 to 8 protein markers. It still is best suited for later stage protein analysis when regulated testing is required. Mass spec will always outperform IHC for much larger protein marker discovery work (e.g. greater than 10). See the Flagship Biosciences website for one approach to tissue multiplexing, 20/20 GeneSystems has another, GE Healthcare has a third.
