  • A Better Way to Short Treasury Bonds Than TBT? [View article]
I like the fixed income ETNs offered by ipath. The DLBS or SBND ETNs are a better option than TBT, but they do come with credit risk that TBT does not.

  • PIMCO Goes Short - And So What? [View article]
In Bill's defense he said in late October of 2010 said the Fed easing signifies an end to the bond bull market, and clearly rates have risen since.
He may be right this time because inflation is rising.

  • Position for a Collapse in the Japanese Yen [View article]
Japanese banks may be a nice option for those negative on JGBs. Here is an article showing how the laggard cyclicals such as MTU tend to bottom as the Japanese bond prices are peaking along with the yield

  • Position for a Collapse in the Japanese Yen [View article]
They trade on the NYSE. My reluctance stems from my lack of experience/knowledge of the futures market. However I do think the argument for rising rates is very compelling, and therefore if the futures market is the only way to put on this trade I suppose I will learn how. Could you recommend a broker for the individual investor to trade in derivatives on the SGX?

  • Before Buying Japan, Consider This [View article]
I bought YCS to hold for the next couple of years against my holding of CEW. Do you only expect a weaker yen in the next few weeks/months?
Here is a quote from Marc Faber giving his case for investing in Japan. I am watching DXJ , JOF some ADR's to maybe put a little money in Japanese stocks.
"...well I think after this kind of twenty years bear market in Japan the valuation is low and the key to the performance of Japanese shares is that the Japanese bond market becomes unattractive and that the Yen over time weaken I think that as a result of the reconstruction work that may cost up to $300 billion U.S. dollars that obviously the government will have to monetize, will push money into equities. I think Japanese shares are worthwhile to accumulate."

Very nice article, I would just comment that in 1994 unlike today, Japan was not indebted to the point that would necessitate monetization of that debt.
