  • Apple Is A Luxury Brand And That Is The Problem [View article]
Re: "Luxury may be more profitable, but if you're looking for growth you're always going to aim at the mass market"

Would you rather own Rolex or Timex?

I invest to make profits. I can spend profits. I can only watch growth. I'll take iOS over Android. I'll take profits over growth every time.

That said, we will see tremendous growth in the AppleWatch platform over the next five years.

    Toneguru,
Even if it IS somewhat likely to fail, JCP has much more upside potential than Apple making it a more dangerous short.

  • Apple's Success Is In The Sensational And The Subtle [View article]
    Robert,
I asked because at the end of the article it says.. "Disclosure: None"

As a rule, when authors are long the stock, they disclose it and I thought you had in the past.

    Ultraz2,
Have you thought about how much market value a $250 stock price adds to Apple? Not going to happen. At least not by 2016. More like 2018 or 2020 if things go really well.

  • Apple: A Reversal Of Fortune Seems Inevitable [View article]
As Bill Mauer just mentioned on S.A., short interest in Apple recently hit another 2014 low.

Even with all of his explanation it is still perplexing why the author would choose this point in Apple's product cycle to short the stock. I guess he just loves being a contrarian.

    Michael,
I don't think of you as one to b.s. your way through a thesis so this needs some explanation:
You say there are "... Asian competitors who are selling extremely capable devices backed by a fully competitive ecosystem at half the price of an iPhone or less." Is that so? Please tell me which company has an ecosysytem "fully competitive" with that of the Apple ecosystem. I don't think it exists because I've never seen that reported anywhere. Perhaps you will enlighten me. Is there an Asian company with desktop, laptops smartphones and tablets with a full suite of productivity apps; e-books; an App store; something competitive with iTunes and iTunes University and customer service to match?

  • Apple's Game Of Inches [View article]
Robert, I think BuyandHold is simply saying the odds favor one being likely to able to buy at a lower price in the near future than if they buy today and would therefore get a better return on a long term investment. So, the answer to your question is: For a likely better return on investment.

My guess is the device will sync wirelessly to iCloud as an iPad will when on a network with a Mac.

  • Apple's Big Deal With IBM Will Help Boost Its Business Sales [View article]
Re: "The best thing about this deal is that it eliminates what remaining relevance BlackBerry has."

Totally unnecessary and clearly false. I'm no fan of Blackberry but this deal has many better aspects to it than the degradation of Blackberry's business.

  • Apple's Q3 Risks Are To The Downside [View article]
Last year in FQ3, Apple shipped 54,181,000 devices @ $556.55 ASP for a total of $30.15 Billion in hardware revenue.

This year in FQ3, Apple shipped 55,818,000 devices @ $566.52 ASP for a total of $31.62 Billion in hardware revenue.

Doesn't seem like a company losing out to competitive pressures to me.
