  • Axion Power Concentrator 359 August 17 '14: 10-Q For Q2 2014; S-1 For $15MM Share Issuance; Changed Loan, IP-Secured MDA; David DiGiacinto Appointed Chairman And CEO [View instapost]
Keep in mind three things about PLUG:
    1) Its share price went up as it accumulated 1st and then follow-up installations at one or two gigantic regional distribution centers with well known companies like Walmart, BMW and P&G.
    2) It severely reduced its COGs by streamlining unit production
    3) The value it brings customers is not always based on energy savings, i.e. PLUG installations save the customer man-hours and warehouse space by eliminating lead battery charging systems.

FWIW - While no numbers have been seen to support the theory, some claim that part of the PLUG run-up was due to a short-squeeze.

AXPW has already reduced it production costs thru the sheeting upgrade; and proven customer savings in grid and truck applications. My take is one big order with a well-known brand-name and the stock price could really do some open field running.

Re: "beggar thy Neighbor" with full credit to J.Heller's "Catch 22"

‘Why wouldn’t you sell your power directly to your neighbor?’

‘Because then there wouldn’t be as much room for profit. At least this way I can make a bit for myself as a middleman.’

‘Then you do make a profit for yourself, using utility infrastructure to get power and then selling power back thru the same infrastructure when profitable for you.’ .

‘Of course I do. But it all goes to the grid. And everybody has a share…’

Hmmm, I seem to remember an author doing an article or two theorizing that the only battery-powered vehicles the next generation would ever see in mass production would have two wheels. Now what the heck was that fella's name....?

Way OT -Carlos, Colombia & Brazil looking good.

NS999 rollout - Last year NFS released its environmental sustainability report on July 16. Taking the NS999 out for a spin this June would allow them to "paint the report" should they keep to the same schedule in 2014. It would also be in step with the theory that they consider the technology sound with good PR value, but not a front-burner item. Last year's news release is here.

Sunday OT - Tomorrow is Apple’s WWDC, a conference aimed at software developers. It basically tells the world what software/platform updates are being implemented for Apple devices. Something that has not been talked about a lot but might be interesting is Apple may adopt NFC (Near Field Communication) in some devices. NFC is basically tech that allows your device/smart card to talk with another device/smart card by touching or swiping.

Axionistas who have had to live with a "lead is dead" mind-set in the investment world should take heart that the same wall street crowd also wrote off NFC a while back. Several beaten down stocks could leap on an announcement of the tech's adoption. For people in general, the tech would effect everything from purchases made by tapping your cell phone to swiping an ID badge.

Greentongue & JCRJG - Here is a little story from last Wednesday to ponder in the Axion's train/truck matrix. Drove from Chicago to Louisville on I-65 which is a divided highway with at least 2-lanes each way. Traffic was whizzing along at 70-80 MPH for most of the 5 hour trip. To pass the time, started counting 18-wheel vehicles going in the other direction. There were enough that 100's were counted in a couple of hours. Then started to count cars vs. trucks, which came in at 3-1. Keep in mind we were only counting trucks going the opposite way.

My take-away is that the ePower model as described by Mr. Peterson will lead to the first steady stream of Pbc orders due to the size and breadth of the trucking sector. NS is a business superstar and any mention lends AXPW credibility, but as we all know, their testing is specific to their engines and looks to grind on once the prototype gets out of the shop. An NS endorsement might effect the next capital raise, but that is out of my area of experise.

Mr. Granville strikes me as having stayed tight-lipped and out of the spot-light other than an ill-timed prediction on when NS might adopt Axion technology. I wonder if this "explosion" of expounding is tied to a specific imminent event (next week) or laying the ground work for something general, like upcoming discussions for the next round of financing?

While I'm not thrilled about it because it is hoped he has more productive things to do than comment on speculations such as mine, there is an "ask the author" email box at the end of the article if someone has a specific question.

P.S. - Why don't you iron a shirt with a shamrock on it? - Because its not wise to press your luck.

Granted the trust level associated with a car salesman barely beats that of congress,

    http://bit.ly/1ixf8wy

But, car dealerships, especially franchises, do provide boots on the ground services in towns across America. They also bring confidence to the market for the consumer. On the other hand, what local shop are you taking the Roadster or Model S to when things go wrong on your road trip? Agree it would nice if an unintended benefit of Tesla is that it forces the dealerships and associations to "up their game".

  • Is The Pentagon Handing China The Keys To U.S. Defense? [View article]
Thank you for highlighting the importance, complexity and US complacency in rare earth market. While the resume of the person who prepared the pentagon report is impressive in a administrative sense, there appears to be no direct link to experience in the rare earth, mining or supply chain fields. http://linkd.in/1czUCaP

    As clarification, believe that:
REE is headquarterd in Colorado, with a Heavy mine project at Bear Lodge Wyo.
GWG is canadian, with most advanced Heavy mine project in South Africa (perhaps world outside China) Also trades OTC GWMFG
UCORE is a Canadian company with the most advanced Heavy N. American project and located in Alaska. Ironically it has received DOD support.

One should also be aware of the existing Lynas mine and projects in Australia
