Black Friday by the numbers: Wal-Mart (WMT) says over 22M customers have been served since the retailer opened its stores last night in a somewhat controversial decision to cut short the Thanksgiving holiday for employees. The company notes it's already knocked out 10M register transactions and hit an astounding pace of 5K items per seconds at peak time. The bigger question: Did Wal-Mart pull sales forward or take market share from rivals with its decision to launch Black Friday shopping earlier? [View news story]
Why don't people who don't want to work retail go work someplace else? Last time I looked we were still free to choose.
A bankruptcy judge has cleared the way for Hostess to begin its liquidation. Flowers Foods (FLO), a potential buyer for all or part of the assets, +4%. [View news story]
Is it better to be "right" and unemployed? I don't know why Hostess was in bankruptcy the 1st time, maybe because they were broke? When a union truck driver is forbidden from carrying cup cakes when he is contracted to carry bread is just plain stupid. Union workers must realize that they do not have a right to a job. Every employee must "earn" at least 4x for the company what he receives in wages. If the employee thinks he is worth more, go get another job, or open up your own bakery. It's real easy to start up and run a business with all the grateful employees out there. And union people wonder why there are no more jobs in America? Why should an employer put up with unions when he can move manufacturing over seas and hire people who are grateful for the opportunity to work?

How about adding a tax on tobacco products, and everyone who gets COPD and lung cancer has all medical bills paid for out of that pool of money? that way the rest of us who don't smoke don't pay for the medical costs of those that do.

Why does Obama's white house pay women less than men for the same jobs? Why does Obama support muslims and their subjugation of women? Why do women support democrats whose policies destroy the family unit and drive single family households into poverty? Why do inner city poor keep voting democratic when they continue to live in squalor perpetuated by democrats? Because they are ignorant. The ignorant masses are bought off by "free" stuff. Welfare, housing, cell phones... generations are enslaved by their ignorance. The promise of America is the ability to break out of low socioeconomic conditions and prosper by hard work, perseverance and laissez-farie government policies. How many poor are breaking out of poverty to the middle class now? The liberal education system has brainwashed our youth. They all know about American idol, but can't name our system of government? Have any read the Constitution , the Federalist Papers? Have you?
California has opened the world’s second-largest auction for permits to release greenhouse gases, the first test of a program that aims to reduce emissions while raising billions of dollars for the state. The auctions are expected to generate $1B in the first year, and $2.8B-$11B/year by 2015. [View news story]
I wonder if the poor sheeple who voted for this nonsense will notice the inflationary effect on all goods and services they buy and put 2+2 together? Nah...It's Bush's fault.

Your ignorance about healthcare is limitless. Commercial insurance sets it's reimbursement rates as a percentage of medicare. Usually between 100-150%. HMO can be 50% of medicare. I am amused at liberal rantings about something they know absolutely nothing about. It's too bad the majority of Americans form opinions based on nothing more than rantings of the ignorant. Please kind sir tell us about the housing bubble and subsequent collapse.

Yes, I am a very successful idiot. Do you know what the difference is between medicaid and commercial insurance pay rates? What does Obamacare expand? A: medicaid. Why don't most providers accept medicaid? A: Because the reimbursement rates are less than the cost to provide the service. Your ignorance is astounding. Do you just like to type on these boards for self amusement? Go post on Huffington, you ignorant twit.

Did you criticize Obama's job czar? Imelt sent GE medical to China... I guess you just forgot that, LOL. GE payed 0 in taxes, but since he's Obama's guy you don't care? Go look at machine tool auctions on the net, you'll see millions of $ in machinery sold at auction and being shipped over seas. These jobs are not coming back. Maybe all you libs can work for Big Bird or Planned Parenthood. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
I didn't get successful by being ignorant of the conditions that affect my business. Thank you very much for your comments, I'll try to remember to keep my emotions in check.
I have been contemplating expanding my business. I don't have a very big office, but I do OK. I figure that I would need 200k to expand, which I have in liquid assets. I'm sure my contractor would love the work. But now... I think I will stay put. I am very comfortable now, so why risk more capital? I don't need more taxes taking a higher percentage of my hard earned money. The new employees I would have hired will just have to find something else to do..Maybe Big Bird or Planned Parenthood has something for them.

I am in the health care services sector. I was looking at expanding. I would have added 1500 sq ft to my office and brought in 3 new employees. The renovation was 105k. Not anymore. I just don't see that I should go through all that trouble to pay Obama and all the other political leeches more money. I wonder how many others in my position have come to the same conclusion?

What's so wrong with bankruptcy? Stimulus only stimulated politically connected donors to the democratic party. This socialistic tenant that government is the only saviour is more propaganda fed to the masses so those in power stay in power. Tell me how is Chicago doing with all the billions spent? How about Cleveland? Detroit? Los Angeles? When I don't have enough money for a new 54 inch flat screen, I don't buy it. Why does our government and authors such as above continue to suggest that more debt gets you out of debt?

Its' Bush's fault. It's Obama's fault. But who's fault before that? Perhaps when Lincoln crushed the south? We had the start of the Federal Government stealing the sovereignty of the States. The states are sovereign, but as they are bribed by the feds, they fail their people. We are all slaves to the master. The sheeple just don't know it. Lets see a show of hands of those that have read the Constitution in the last year, how about the Federalist Papers... anyone?
