FDA approves inhalable diabetes drug Afrezza
FDA approves long-delayed inhalable insulin drug Afrezza from MannKind Corp

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Food and Drug Administration says it has approved a long-delayed inhalable diabetes medication to help patients control their blood sugar levels.

The FDA cleared MannKind Corp.'s drug Afrezza, a fast-acting form of insulin, for adults with the most common form of diabetes, which affects more than 25 million Americans. The approval decision comes more than three years after the agency first asked MannKind to run additional clinical studies on the drug.

Afrezza, an insulin powder, comes in a single-use cartridge and is designed to be inhaled at the start of a meal. MannKind has said patients using the drug can achieve peak insulin levels within 12 to 15 minutes. That compares to a wait time of an hour and a half or more after patients inject insulin.

  • If The Verge's sources are accurate, Steven Sinofsky's departure from Microsoft (MSFT) was due to his "abrasive" personality and habit of "putting up roadblocks for products" that threaten his power. Scott Forstall might be able to sympathize. A recent CNET profile of Sinofsky relayed criticism of his management style, and also noted he was "increasingly disregarding" Steve Ballmer's efforts "to get the Windows group to work in concert with other divisions." Sinofsky claims his departure was a "personal and private choice," but Microsoft says the decision was mutual. (org chart comic[View news story]

Sounds simple on the surface Bob, but when hurricane sandy hit NJ no one could fill their cars with gas. Not that there was no gas, but because the power was out and the filling stations were not allowed to use stand alone generators.
