  • Why Projections For Tesla To Sell 500,000 Cars In 2020 Are Absurd [View article]
There are no facts that really change the investment thesis here. Comparing TSLA's growth rate to MSFT is at best of mild interest. Using that for an investment thesis is misguided.

They are listing it as a $0.77/sh _distribution_. Show me how a shareholder realizes $0.77/sh due to the rights offering. I don't think you can.

Accrection due to rights offerings is reliant on selling shares at a large premium to NAV to new investors. In other words investors are betting on future returns that depend on selling $1 worth of assets for $1.20 or $1.30 or $1.40 or more.

Who are these future investors? Greater fools.

Because the $0.77/share distribution value is effectively used to purchase shares at NAV which then immediately get repriced at market value for the shares.

I'm sure lots of early investors in Madoff's ponzi scheme "made" millions also!

The value is over represented. They are using a "reinvest price" of NAV instead of the market price of the shares (which is what you would pay had it been a cash dividend).

What methodology are you using to account for the value of the GRX rights offerings?

For the offering that was closed on 7/9/2014 it looks like you are attributing a value of $0.76/share.

    Please show your work.

  • Goldman Sachs Scales Back Brokerage Services To Hedge Funds [View article]
Makes sense. So how do brokers like Interactive Brokers afford to lend money at ridiculously low margin rates (0.5% for $3MM+)? Is it simply a matter of being satisfied with lower margin clients?

swaps- How does being a prime broker for a hedge fund feed into the leverage calculation? Is the problem that any lending to a hedge fund adds to GS's borrowed funds and if it is not providing GS a good return then it is not worth it to have the client?
