"In producing 4200 F-22 raptors, which take 18,500 hours to make, they have made 59 perfect jets that have not had a single malfunction"
Your numbers are off. I'm in the Air Force so I will try and explain how aircraft are numbered. The first digit is the last digit of the year of production. The next three digits of the aircraft number are determined by the order of manufacture.
The first F-22 completed was numbered 4001 because it was produced in 2004 and was the first one of the assembly line. The last F-22 to be completed and delivered was 4195. Production started in 2004 and it was the 195th F-22 to come of the assembly line hence it is 4195.
So there were only 195 made, 59 of which did not have a single malfunction. A much better rate than 4200 to 59.
So Bill Gross Is Bearish On Equities [View article]
I read the Investement outlook and Gross predicts a 4% return on stocks and 2% on bonds, for a 3% return in a diversified portfollio. With a assumed 3% rate of inflation that results in no return. I dissagree with his statement that we will never see 6.6% from stocks again, but I do think his warning about inflation is worth heading. Stocks may be outside of his area of competence, but he is a legend in bond investing and so understands interest rates and inflation very well.
If you don't have a garanteed return on your investment your only option is to save more, work longer and learn to life within your means.

Thanks fo rthe aticle. I prefer to own 2 or 3 stocks from each sector. It gives me a fair amount of diversification, and I still have the ability to choose the best out of each sector. I do use index funds for my foriegn exposure since I don't know as much about their markets.
