  • The iPad Mini Is Apple's Way Of Playing Offense With Defense [View article]
Agreed about the screen. I read so many reviews online about how the screen was horrible, so I wrote it off until the next gen most likely would include the retina display. But then I looked at them in the store side by side with a current gen retina display ipad, and really couldn't appreciate a substantial difference. Picked one up and much prefer the form factor and overall lightness to the larger ipad.

Relying on yahoo finance may not be the best way to research stocks. The ttm payout ratio on yahoo includes the charge taken in 4Q 2011 earnings when the write down for the t mobile merger was taken. So even if it's technically accurate for ttm, that was was a one time charge, and won't be there going forward. Do you honestly think eps for the next four quarters will be 0.76 as yahoo states? T made 0.63 diluted eps just last quarter. Your readers deserve better due diligence.

I told you how I got it as well as my source. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly be corrected. All I'm saying is that the author stating the payout was over 200% peaked my interest, b/c I didn't think it was anywhere near that. According to the last several quarters, the payout seems to be around the 70% mark. Again, this is just coming from a quick check from the financials section on T from google finance. Did you look at it? If I'm wrong, I need to know it, b/c I'll probably be selling the stock. I'm aware of the FCF method of deriving the payout ratio, but I don't usually use that one if the EPS as stated by the company well covers the dividend, which it appears to in the case of T.

Well, I looked at google finance, and the last 4 quarters were 0.64, 0.66, 0.63, and -0.31. The -0.31 seems like an anomoly as the quarter before that was 0.65, and wasn't the -0.31 quarter the one where they took the charge for the failed t mobile merger? It still looks like it's closer to 70% to me.

"AT&T has been a dividend winning stock for more than 1/4 of a century, but as of right now, the payout ratio is over 200%."

Where are you getting this? I did a quick check and it looks closer to 70% payout ratio to me.

What's a good resource to find the percentage shorting a stock?

Great article, thank you. Any idea what the average historical yield has been? I often use yield ranges as a rough approximation of what's under valued, fair valued, or over valued.

The limit is $1000 of UBTI, not dividend income. You'd need a lot of shares to ever hit $1000 UBTI.

  • The Network Effect: Why Apple's iOS Will Win The Platform War Over Google's Android [View article]
"There is no network effect in play at the phone level, all of these are generic services and protocols which operate on any platform. Their investment in any particular phone "ecosystem" is essentially zero."

Have to disagree with that one.....Who wants to rebuy all their apps on a new platform?

  • Apple's Decline: Thanks, iPad Mini [View article]
The current convertibles still seem to heavy and awkward. Maybe in a few generations they'll make more sense. And I agree that other companies are now making better high end phones, but for me, it's more about the software experience and ecosystem. I don't even know what OS the Lumina runs. How's the app store for Nokia? The phone may be nice, but it's the support of the ecosystem that keeps me with apple.

  • Is Apple Becoming A Dividend Stock? [View article]
So far the only stock buyback authorized by the board is to offset future issuance of stock options, without actually decreasing share count. Or did I miss an announcement of a large buyback?

  • Exxon Mobil: Reasonable In The Low $90′s [View article]
"Overall, the current price at under $92 appears fair. The P/E of under 10 can be deceptively low to some, but the P/FCF is a more robust 18 and shows the company is not particularly undervalued."

Thank you for your in depth articles. I'm wondering, what would be considered an undervalued P/FCF for an oil company? Many thanks...
