  • House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says it's time for Americans to "come to grips with the fact that promises have been made that frankly are not going to be kept for many," and young people must "adjust" to a future with fewer entitlements. Straight talk for a change, or a betrayal?  [View news story]
One promise will be kept (the check will go out) but it won't buy you a cup of coffee. The US is Broke, and hyperinflation is on the way.

  • President Obama says House Speaker Boehner has decided to walk away from debt limit negotiations. Earlier today, Boehner had suggested talks would continue.  [View news story]
Why don't we drop Obamacare for a 1 trillion increase in the debt limit and call it a day?
Then we can focus on eliminating the Income tax and the FED and get us back on track to stability.

  • Preparing for trouble in Greece: a tunnel that leads from Parliament to the port of Piraeus is being cleaned out for the possible evacuation of MP's in case the building is stormed following Wednesday's vote on new fiscal austerity measures.  [View news story]
The Greeks will likely lynch their representatives if they vote for anything but default. They will not stand for more official "austerity".

  • Apple (AAPL -1.6%) shares slipped after Steve Jobs’ traditional “One Last Thing” fell short of the usual splash, discussing adding iTunes to the iCloud. On the whole, Apple unveiled lots of new features around the edges, but no new hardware and nothing that got investors' jaws to drop. The letdown dragged down tech stocks, which slid to the day's lows at the close.  [View news story]
Gee - isn't the cloud just one big step back to the mainframe mentality?
(including all the vulnerability and dependency of such a single point failure system.)
Apple transitions into the old Big Blue?

  • Gold Too Variable to Be a Currency [View article]
Hyperinflation rarely has anyone come out OK - just offering a warning from a different set of spectacles looking for the truth.
We are moving into a period where looking back over the past 99 years of US monetary policy for clues of future investment will sink you financially.

The main reason you don't see a 1:1 correlation between Adjusted Monetary Base and Reported inflation is the damping factor of the dollar being the reserve currency - which is rapidly ending - it spreads the pain through the filters of many economies. Expect that to change and the rubber band effect to bring inflation back in multiples.

The simplest way to explain it : Google: "adjusted monetary base" and click on the St Louis Fed chart you'll find approximately a 13X multiplier in the amount of currency in circulation since 1984 (most recent parabola 2008). CPI calculations using the standards in place in 1980 put inflation around 10% today. My guess? - hyper within 18 months.

There is nothing ridiculous about hyperinflation - look at the percentages that Zimbabwe suffered through, and note that the US is following a similar path.
Much easier politically to send out a social security check (as promised) but it won't cover a cup of coffee in purchasing power.

    Sheik,
I think you misunderstand inflation - monetary inflation is the creation of fiat currency greater than your tangible output - The FED has done this since its creation (and parabolically since 2008) and you see it in the dropping dollar.
Price inflation is merely the symptom (time delayed) of the phony currency creation. Those who receive the newly printed currency first have the purchasing advantage over the rest of the market -who suffer from the rising prices.
So 300% inflation is already baked into the cake by the FED - stop believing the government lies about CPI numbers.
Gold will run to around $7000 per ounce before this is over.

  • Europe's Next Debt Crisis Will Be in Its Core [View article]
Now begins the multiple waves of sovereign defaults - which fiat paper do you want to hold while this unfolds?

The dollar is just as unsound structurally as is the euro, except that it still holds as reserve currency - until Saudi Arabia and China decide otherwise.
Gold only has to go to 6000 or $7000/oz to support all the paper at present - but to support all the unfunded liabilities - it needs to go to $700,000 /oz - something has to give.

  • Stagflation Means the Gold Bull Market Is Very Much Intact [View article]
You mean Asset Deflation coupled with Monetary Inflation?
Such a scenario burns the paper value of the failed assets and institutions.
Unsaleable houses worth $1 million in previous loan value, but paying off that million dollar obligation with dollars that will at the same time buy you only a cup of coffee? Hyperinflation coming big time!

  • Why Commodities Crashed [View article]
5 margin increases in less than 10 days suppressed the silver market and allowed those overextended on shorts to cover their butts and make some coin. The fundamental failure of the dollar is still in place, and the metals will hold your purchasing power. The market makers are trying to establish a trading engine in the wild swings.

Is your head in the sand? "Faith in the fairness of the judicial system and institutions is vitally important"
Have you heard about the fraudclosure scandals in the housing market, robosigners, and corrupted property titles?
How about the fact that none of these fraudsters on wall street have any chance of prison time?
The bankers have purchased our elected repersentatives, and you think the dollar will survive?
    The Dollar is toast.
