  • QE Can't Save These 2 Stocks [View article]
Hedgephone, I completely agree with you on valuation but as others have said the market can be irrational at times.

Now, where I disagree is your premise for the valuation collapsing in the short term viewpoint of an options trade. As a consumer of both of these services. Today there simply are no competitors even close to what these solutions provide. I'm not saying there aren't folks trying, that is for sure the case but on the street scale really does matter on the tech front. LinkedIn is a sales guys dream and a remarkable effective way for the sales teams to brand themselves. It has become the new rolodex and how long did those stick around? SFDC is not valuable for the CRM per-se rather the appexchange which allows customers to tailor the product to their own needs in a way that adds real value. SFDC had 90k people at their Dreamforce event two weeks ago. The result is the development of an entire ecosystem of hanger-on companies building on it as a platform.

Now, before I get in a flame-war with folks using or offering competive products I only stated this from my viewpoint to put perspective around my concern with this trade. Do I agree the multiples are insane? Of course! I would only offer my view point above in the context of when the break from reality will occur which after all that is what is being bet using one sided options. I'm just not sure the music is coming to an end quite yet and I'd sure hate to get burned betting on a direction.

An alternative to this uni-directional approach would be a strangle/straddle or running up to earnings a condor. Have you evaluated these options strategies so you don't get fried but rather play on the price movement either way?

  • $10 A Day Keeps The Retirement Woes Away [View article]
Eli, great article for those that are young or young at heart. Good to see authors on SA who are focused on folks just learning the power of compounding rather than already versed on advanced topics. I really enjoyed it!
In the words of Albert Einstein..
"Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it ... he who doesn't ... pays it."

Yes a troll Passion. If you disagree with an author or believe a methodology of trading is bunk then please write an article disproving the method itself rather than pretending the author 'owes' you anything. Better yet write an article setting a new bar by showing your trade confirmations using the methods you outline above as being superior. I promise if you show a superior strategy with the associated documentation showing your trades you won't have to worry about other folks since everyone will be following you rather than them.

With your vast knowledge and confidence I'm sure it would make SA better rather than using a lack of response from an author as a reason in and of itself to spam away relentlessly.

Here is the definition of troll for you BTW.
Troll (Internet), an internet term for a person who, through willful action, attempts to disrupt a community or garner attention and controversy through provocative messages

@Kevin do yourself and all of us a favor and just ignore your newly acquired troll. I for one appreciate you taking the time to freely outline what your strategies are. If they work for you congratulations. As with life in general it's up to me to do my due diligence to figure out if they work for me. It is so unfortunate that SeekingAlpha is becoming such a troll haven.

Please do keep all the informative posts coming. For those of us not looking for a complete handout we really appreciate you taking the time to make us think.

For the trolls, the beauty of SA is that you can write and publish your own articles. It is a great place for you to post all your trade screenshots, account balances and other 'proof' that your system is better. I look forward to reading them all and hopefully making a few bucks off your systems if they work for me.

  • Turning $10,000 To Nearly $13,000 On Earnings [View article]
Shmulik, you are playing with fire. What you have really found are companies that have volatility around earnings but only playing one side of the bet is a losers game. There are a bunch of folks on here that can give you some more advanced strategies (butterflies, strangles etc) which will let you pick these types of stocks but not be tied to direction. A great example is here...
I hope you don't take this negatively as it is not meant to be. Good luck on your trades.

  • LinkedIn Climbs Back Up To $90: Why It's Time To Short Again [View article]
Sorry to speak for you Bret but Supatdog this is called a trade. You are implying an investment. There is a fundamental difference between your premise and the entire article.
I'm Long (Buy) at 60 short term and short (sell) at 90 right now. To trade nobody cares where the company will be in five years. I'll be out in April. You can see this exact pattern setting up across a range of tech stocks. Look at RVBD, VMW etc. You can make Bret's trade month after month and make a killing.

  • Addition of VMware (VMW) to the Daily Options Strategy- Removal of IBM [View instapost]
Great to see VMW added to the model. Made some good gains this month using your model and selling the 77.50 puts during the quick pullback. Love the stock but hope it breaks down after earnings monday to sell them again this month. This thing is like a range bound clock between 80 and 100. Keep up the good work Kevin.

  • The Daily Options Strategy Part 4: More Charts, Tips, And Insight [View article]
Thanks for another great article Kevin. When looking at that trade on it is obviously very time sensitive as all these are. If the bid/ask when you are making that trade where are you coming in at for the buy? Are you coming in at the Ask or right in between?

  • Addition of F5 Networks (FFIV) to Daily Options Strategy [View instapost]
The EMC relationship works well for the stock since they announced in 2010 that they will maintain 80% ownership of the stock. Since that announcement when VMW stalls, it stalls down to around the 80 level but once it starts going up you will see EMC buying in blocks. I've done very well just selling 85/80 puts on the way down and buying calls on the way up to 100. The spread is a bit bigger than CF and others but I haven't had any trouble getting fills.

Disclosure: I have no positions long or short VMW just sharing my experience trading options on it over the past year or so.

  • Addition of F5 Networks (FFIV) to Daily Options Strategy [View instapost]
Thanks for the great articles Kevin. I've been watching these for quite some time just to get a feel for the setups. Just out of curiousity how do you feel about VMW for this type of trade? It was in an 80-100 channel for quite some time but seems determined to close over 100 tday.

  • Cramer's Mad Money - The Dreamforce Manifesto (12/7/10) [View article]
Having attended Dreamforce all I can say is Wow. Salesforce has managed to move from a product to a platform with over 300 partners building their own products just to 'live' in the CRM world. I haven't felt a buzz like that since around 99' at a tech conference. It was a pretty remarkable event.

  • Sirius Seeking Move to XM [View article]
Your missing my point. I'm not a Howard groupie rather my point with the article is IF they don't restore his contract a large number of users will in fact follow him wherever he ends up. Using this logic, it would make sense to migrate to the XM technology since that will shift the user base significantly towards that platform.

  • Sirius Seeking Move to XM [View article]
Let's be honest, if Howard leaves Sirius the platform is dead. The only choice will be to go to a pure XM platform. Is this a foretelling that Howard is not renewing his contract?
