  • Anadarko sale of Mozambique stake seen as positive [View news story]
APC's reserves offshore Mozambique are good, BUT, the really good reserves are in Area 4 adjacent to APC's Area 1 held by Italy's ENI (symbol "E").

  • Shell (RDS.A -0.5%) reportedly is pitching its floating liquefied natural gas technology directly to the government of Mozambique after failing so far to gain a foothold in East Africa, one of the world’s hottest energy plays. Shell's presentation to Mozambique's president during a U.K. visit suggests it is seeking ways to bypass the companies which have made gas discoveries in the country, Anadarko (APC) and Eni (E). [View news story]
Shell should buy a working interest from the owners in Rovuma area 1 and 4 ( APC & E ).

As said in the movie "Godfather". Shell should simply make an offer to Anadarko, or Eni that can't be refused.

  • Mozambique, striving to become one of Africa's top energy producers, plans to export its first liquefied natural gas by 2018 but ~$40B of infrastructure, including a terminal to export 20M metric tons of LNG, is needed first. It remains unclear who will build the plant; Eni (E) and Anadarko (APC) operate the concessions where most of the 108Tcf of gas have been found, and are talking with the government. [View news story]

I am just a poor retiree looking for a way to make grocery money safely. Since I don't understand what this is all about, I will stick with PSX stock and perhaps buy a little more COP stock.

  • Anadarko (APC +0.8%) comes up one complaint short of a full dismissal regarding allegations it misled investors in the wake of the 2010 Gulf oil spill. A U.S. district judge says investors can sue over a statement made by a vice president regarding APC's involvement in design and procedures at Macondo. The company did say it was pleased that "almost all of the claims" were dismissed. [View news story]

  • The selloff in BDCs (BDCS -1.9%) in response to higher rates should not be "uniform across the sector," says Fifth Street Finance (FSC -1.9%) in its June 2013 newsletter. As of March 31, 74% of FSC investments were floating and 90% of capital was not tied to rate movements. A small bump in rates should make the portfolio more profitable, but - because floors will be breached - a large rise would "dramatically" boost profits. Other BDCs today: Prospect - which claims to be in the same position as FSC - (PSEC -0.4%), Ares (ARCC -1.7%), BlackRock Kelso (BKCC -1.9%), Main Street (MAIN -3.2%), Solar (SLRC -1.4%), TICC (TICC -1.8%). [View news story]
To my fellow BDC pals, here is a rather new BDC that looks well situated for growth and with a very nice dividend yield. It is Fidus Investment Corp., symbol: FDUS.

  • Shell (RDS.A) has pulled out of talks to acquire a stake in Anadarko Petroleum's (APC) gas discoveries off the coast of Mozambique in East Africa, due to a high price. Instead, Shell will focus on projects off the coasts of Benin, Gabon and South Africa on the other side of the continent. While these projects are more uncertain, they could be more lucrative, as West African prospects tend to provide more oil than gas. [View news story]
Shell should take a close look at acquiring Anadarko Petroleum (APC) or ConocoPhillips (COP). Either one would be a good fit for Shell albeit expensive.

  • Credit Suisse stresses a more defensive posture in MLPs, focusing attention on large, relatively liquid, investment-grade MLPs or affiliates with exposure to the coming crude oil production boom in North America. Its eight favorite MLPs to buy now: WMB, QRE, LNG, TRGP, CQP, XTEX, ACMP, GEL[View news story]
I agree that CQP and LNG look best. However, I think I Will just buy the "basket" of MLPs (symbol: AMLP or MLPA). Both are ATFs and report on form 1099 not a K-1.

  • The permit approval for the Freeport gas export project opens up the dam for other pending applications, but the pace of coming decisions is still unknown, analysts say, adding that similar projects building from existing facilities are best placed to secure approval and financing. Meanwhile, Cheniere Energy (LNG) has reaffirmed its operating target date of late 2015 for the export terminal it is building at Sabine Pass, La. [View news story]
If you want value and income, sell your LNG and buy CQP. Same company, but more income.
