    For safety of dividends sake, just buy Chevron (CVX). They have top acreage in the Gulf and no legal baggage. Another to consider would be Conoco Phillips (COP).

    Chevron's Gulf of Mexico deep water acreage is about as good as you can find. That's where the future lies. Pick up some BP, also for their acreage position in the gulf, and you should be good for the long haul.

    Since you are fascinated by mining stocks, how about BHP? Now, that's one that has a lot of oars in the water. It seems to me that it would be a good companion to FCX in that BHP needs some copper exposure.

    Seems to me that you are just "pumping" your XOM. My advice is to hold both CVX and T then add some COP. XOM is a good company, but not better overall than the three I mentioned.
