    Good analysis. I would add in the amount spent on acquisitions as another source of shareholder dilution. I believe in rough numbers that Cisco has put about $60B of shareholder capital into acquisitions in the last 10 years.

    To put Gratianus' point another way, you get a yield on the preferred but lack the upside in the stock as you have with the common.
