  • Quantum Fuel Systems: Promising Future, But Stay Away For Now [View article]
Ask anyone in the business. Rotomoulding is NOT a viable large scale liner solution. They had the opportunity to go with blow moulding about ten years ago but their crack team of directors wanted to invest in wind farms. So you see, no matter how much they try to expand production, it will always be limited by a liner technology better suited for making toys and kayaks.

Quantum's achilles is their rotomoulded liner. It is fraught with quality issues and is the rate limiting element in their technology. Unfortunately for Quantum, they don't have any qualified designs with alternative liner technologies...they are stuck with a loser Paxon piece of garbage at the heart of their tank business.

  • Isis Pharmaceuticals CEO Discusses ISIS-APOCIII Rx Conference (Transcript) [View article]
It seems that the average person doesn't understand the potential meaning of this news. Although this drug is being developed to target an extremely small group of people with familial chylomicronemia syndrome, the reality is that APOCIII-Rx will drastically reduce the effects and onset of diabetes for millions of people. The potential application for this drug beyond FCS is enormous.

"Fuel cells are twice as efficient as combustion engines" ...not necessarily true. A new generation of diesel engines are being produced that rival the most efficient fuels cells.

Take a look at Transonic Combustion

You don't need to convert the natural gas pipeline...you can actually send hydrogen mixed with natural gas right down the same lines and separate it at delivery.

A key piece of information regarding hydrogen and natural gas for transportation is the need for onboard storage which requires as much as 50-80 kgs of carbon fiber to produce high pressure storage tanks for hydrogen (1/3 that for natural gas).

Everybody seems to forget to include the calculation for the immense amount of energy necessary to produce carbon fiber required to store hydrogen at 10,000 psi.

  • More on the SodaStream (SODA) - Whirlpool (WHR) deal: The quick analyst take on the collaboration between the companies is that clear benefits exist for both with SodaStream gaining a major partner and Whirlpool jumping into a new product line. Though it's still very early in the game, the broadening out of the home carbonation business isn't great news for soda sellers (KO, PEP, DPS). [View news story]
Maybe you should try it before you give a empty opinion. An ice cold glass of carbonated water is quite nice and you'll get hooked. Everyone I know that has a Soda Stream loves them...I suggest giving it a try so that you understand the potential.
