  • Government agency plans to shake down Big Pharma [View news story]
Even as a Pfizer stockholder, I'm glad to hear this -- because I'm also a taxpayer, and the government pays a shipload of $ in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, and Big Pharma has been shaking down insurance companies, private pay patients and the government for years. Let them make money by competing, not by eliminating competition. Any argument to the contrary is just a rationalization for personal and corporate greed.

NCT is NOT down 54%. NCT completed its spinoff of New Residential, and distributed one share of New Residential (NRZ) to each of its shareholders for each share they held. Between the two companies, NCT holders when the stock was at $12.20 or so may be down a few cents in aggregate, but they have NOT lost 54%. Abbott Labs was selling in the $60-$70 range before spinning off Abbvie. Today, the combined value of Abbvie and Abbott Labs is in the $82 range. You could look at Abbott when it was $72 and see now that it sells for $36 and conclude that it has lost half its value, but the stockholders who have held on to both have done quite well -- especially with reinvested dividend.

  • Intel (INTC) names COO Brian Krzanich its next CEO; he'll take over from Paul Otellini following Intel's May 16 shareholder meeting. Krzanich, who first joined Intel in 1982, was named COO early last year after having overseen Intel's manufacturing ops, and (along with CFO Stacy Smith) became an executive VP at the time Otellini announced his retirement plans. The Street isn't crazy about the move, INTC -1% premarket. (PR[View news story]
This guy has been with the company for 31 years. When you play a role in building a solid, steady performer like Intel, with its dominant market share, you've earned the chance to lead it.
