I'm a longtime consultant to the media industry. My background is as a reporter in my native North Carolina and in Connecticut. I moved to New York City in 1989 to join the business side of the New York Times, rising to become VP New Media/New Products (a division I created) in the Information Services Group. As such, I took the Times online for the first time with a deal with AOL, which ponied up the cash when I couldn't convince the Times to do so. I also ran the Russian-language edition of the newspaper, distributed out of Moscow.
I left the Times in 1995 to start Gansevoort Media (www.gansevoortmedia.com), focused on strategic planning and product development. Our clients have included the Wall Street Journal, the Dallas Morning News, the St. Petersburg Times, Prodigy Services Corp., MaMaMedia, and too many others to mention. One client, Out Publishing, engaged me to rescue its failing magazine, whose revenue I tripled in three years, establishing it as the leading quality gay publication. Another client, Metro International, engaged me to launch its 330,000-circ free daily in New York City.
Now I am focusing my energy on recruiting through the interMediator group (www.intermediatorgroup.com), the anti-recruiter recruiter. If you, like I, have hated everything about the current executive recruiting model, check us out.
I love this site, although I frequently disagree strongly with the conclusions of other contributors. But that's what makes it fascinating and thought-provoking!

the interMediator group
The interMediator group applies both art and science to executive recruiting. We distinguish ourselves from conventional recruitment firms by: -- Negotiating a set fee rather than a percentage of first year's compensation, which allies our interest with yours. -- Using psychological screening tools to ensure culture fit and identify potentially difficult personalities. -- Focusing on no more than three clients at a time, to ensure hands-on attention from our principals.
