While travel certainly has some perks, most of them are going the way of the dinosaur. I am sure my pharmacist has some perks, but I don't see any "clubs" or "become a pharmacist" ads. Maybe travel is an easy target. Maybe the MLM outfits feel there are more gullible people that have an interest. Most true professionals are in the business for the love of the business. Ask anyone who has been around for more than a few years.

While these schemes pop up all the time and disappear as quickly as they appear, two of the biggest current offenders are YTB (Your Travel Biz) and World Ventures. Apparently, there is another "club" with an "insta-agent" option launching in October called eTrips Network.

All profess to offer wonderful discounts and perks that, in most instances, will never materialize. In addition they claim to provide "identification" cards that will reap steep discounts on personal travel. I have yet to speak with someone that can convincingly verify any of their claims. As my mother has always said, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is." For more enlightenment, visit the Web site scam.com and do a search for "travel opportunities."

That is not to say that one can't earn a living selling travel from home. There are thousands out there that do it every single day. With the growth of online sales and the reduction in brick-and-mortar storefronts, many of these displaced agents have gone home. You can, too.

There are many legitimate "hosts" that will facilitate this and work with you to achieve your goals. They will not fill you with false promises and inflated numbers. They are interested in selling travel. They work with the suppliers to build their collective businesses and relationships. Yes, they take some money from you, but you need to review the programs and decide what is best for you.

Some of the reputable host agencies are America's Vacations Center, Magellan 360, Cruise Planners, Nexion, GTM Travel Group and Travel Planners International. But realistically, if you want to make any money in any industry, you must be willing to work at it. Period. If you want a good list of reputable companies to begin a career in travel, check out the list maintained by the industry trade publication Travel Trade.

12 Questions to ask before joining up for any travel opportunity:

1. What is the initial fee?
2. What is my bottom-line monthly cost?
3. How often will I be paid?
4. What percentage of my sales do you retain?
5. How long have you been a host agency?
6. Can you give me five members to contact for a reference?
7. What professional affiliations do you hold as a host?
8. What training do you offer? In house? Online? Phone? Mail?
9. How long is the contract?
10. Do I actually sell travel?
11. Do I need my own insurance or am I covered under yours?
12. Will you put these claims in writing?
No. 12 is the most important one.

You also might want to check out the company with your local consumer protection agency, state attorney general and the Better Business Bureau, not only where the company is located, but also where you live. These organizations can tell you whether they have received complaints about the work-at-home program that interests you.

But be wary: the absence of complaints doesn't necessarily mean the company is legitimate. Unscrupulous companies may settle complaints, change their names or move to avoid detection. I know of one company that was a refrigeration company before becoming a travel company.

And to the naysayers out there, I challenge you. If you can prove the claims of the riches promised, I will publicly eat crow in a future column. Just e-mail me some redacted documents — bank statements, monthly commission checks, etc. Go on, I dare you. I double-dog dare you! The ball is in your court.

But until then, my advice to the consumer and someone looking to get into this business can be summed up in one word: BEWARE!

I did not post it or write it. After all is said and done the author must have knowledge of something and checked it out thoroughly before posting it here, correct or not? I'm quite sure it has to be the truth because of the consequences involved in divulging and writing such a post.

I'm sure the person felt it was the right thing to do. I believe it was to send out some sort of reality check, message for anyone and everyone to take notice here and to be aware that something is going on and to be warned. Why else would anyone post something like this?
To assume that someone is negative without knowing the truth about that person is an assumption about that person is not in the best interest of anyone involved and not based on the truth. If you read my other posts you would see my wishes for their success and letting people decide what is best for them. I do not think that is negative but then again that is my opinion. Right or wrong I have been telling the truth because I have no reason to do anything different than the truth. I'm not here to bash anyone or any company. Just to have anyone who desires to compare and see the differences. It is up to every individual to make up his or her mind, do their due diligence what is right or best for that individual based on the TRUTH. No two people think alike anyway however it has to be based on true facts. It would be a very boring g life if we all liked the same things or felt the same about everything.

If I have been unkind to anyone then they must have taken my words in the wrong context of what I was trying to convey.

I'm sorry to anyone if in fact I have offended, it is and was not my intention to do that. I have no hard feelings towards anyone here or anywhere else.
My reputation has been and always will be that of honesty and integrity. Integrity is worth more to me anyway then any company or any money earned or not earned. I have excellent work ethics and I do not think or act in a negative way. If you think that of me then you do not really know me at all. I love what I do and it is reflected in how I conduct my life and those who have chosen me as their leader. I lead by example and want only the best for them and always help them. We all work together and help each other. I have many references if anyone here or anywhere would like them they are by request.

Again I wish you all the best that life has to offer all of you whatever your decisions in life are, what is good for you and or your family. We all have rights to our own opinions. Remember...Freedom of speech.

We are not bashing YTB with any lies. Why don't you fess up to the fact that you in fact did hang up on me and Susan. Is your associate name Rick too, hmmm We do not have to make up things or lie. Competition is wonderful it separates the men from all the little boys who are on a power trip and need to get noticed and will do almost anything including lie to get noticed. Let it be known here and now Mr. Rick that you in fact hung up because you don't talk to anyone who does not have $499.99, YOUR entrance fee to join YOUR company.

I asked for Rick when we called and you said I'm Rick. Maybe you need a check up from the next up, not to be rude or maybe your memorty failing you. You don't answer your calls, do you have ghosts in your house by the Rick that talk? Why did you apologize if you did not hang up on us? That is strange.

I left it up to the individual what ever company they want to join is fine with me.

Let's all face it I was not the one who started the beginning of this column. It was done by Andrew Left of stock lemon.com He must know what he is talking about otherwise why would he raise a RED FLAG here?

I'm not bashing YTB where on earth did you get that idea or notion? My integrity and my associates is worth its weight in GOLD. We do not have to lie, we have nothing to lie about. Aren't you a great company, if so no need to lie. The truth shall set you FREE.

There were two of us on the call to you personally. You told us quote..if someone does not have $499.99 I do not want to talk to them..click..and you hung up.
That speaks volumes about you and your integrity. You mentioned nothing about joining for free. The fact I do not want to discuss it further is because I didn't want a bigger conflict than was already stated. I always tell the truth because I do not believe in any hype or lies. There is no need of it. I have no reason what-so-ever to lie. My integrity is worth much more than any company or money or anything else for that matter. I have an excellent reputation and I protect and uphold it. I can sleep very well at night knowing I have not lied to anyone. By the way, adults do not hang up on people no matter what. We were not rude in any way, we were just asking some questions.
I treat people the way in which I wish to be treated. I also would never do anything to hurt anyone. I'm a humanitarian and I care about ALL people and I treat them all equal.

How soon you forget you hung up on both of us. We were on a 3 way call with you and when we mentioned the fee your company charges you indeed hung up on us..You simply stated you don't talk to ANYONE who does not have $499.99 and hung up. . There were the 2 of us not just one on the call. You'd never do that you say, interesting you say that but you did indeed hang up on us.
. We were interested in your thoughts and we asked very nicely questions you were not willing to answer. I will not discuss this any further. You did not have the decency even to apologize. So be it.

Rick you are the one who hung up on me and my associate because you do not talk to anyone who does not have $499.99 to get into YTB?

Folks, did you know 85% of that money goes to only 3% of the people, the top earners, what does that tell you.

Folks ours is $119.95. How many people do you think you could get with that huge difference? You know the answer. We make money "with" people not "off" people. To not allow the average person a chance to earn income doesn't stand a chance with me..now you do what you think is righ , join the company you desire, your choice. Ground floor is where you want to be and not in a company that is going on 7 years old. Imagine what you would be worth if you were a founder in Amway, Mary Kay, Avon etc.

We care about people and we make it feasible for the average person who never made any money in network marketing to earn money with our company. Don't get taken please, put your money back in your pocket. Check us and compare and you will see the differences, your choice where you'd like to be.
You want to be careful with these companies who charge exorbitant up front joining fees. You don't want to make the top people wealthy now do you?
You want to fall for "hype" by all means go right ahead, be my guest. Keep in mind you want to be a CTA and we have that position unlike other companies.

At any rate whatever you decide is best for you I wish you success and I mean that sincerely.

What you do not understand is this....our spokesperson does not get paid to be a spokesperson for TraVerus. Our spokesperson looked for 16 years to find the RIGHT company and because of the honesty and integrity of our company he aligned himself with our company. He gets paid like any other associate that joins our company. I want to know how sponsored you into the company you mention, how long were you associated and what did you do or not do?

Also any company that has a large fee to join 85% of that money goes to only 3% of the people and the ones not at top struggle.

What does one have to do to earn the million dollar bonus. H ow many hours does it take, if not years and how may associates struggle in your organization. How long are you in your company and how many are earning significant income to earn back the their investment in your company? What do they have to do to earn back their initial investment, how many associates does that take?

Who was your sponsor in TraVerus and how long were you an associate?

I wish you well with all present and future endeavors. I have some inside information you don't want to hear and I will not post it here.
The person who started this original post here has some information about YTB and that is why the RED FLAG was raised, wouldn't you agree? Why else would whomever post this here. I believe it is to protect and WARN people here that things are not as they seem.

Keep in mind we have over 500 in our business you are talking about one person.hmmm Sorry, I'm not impressed. You have to come up with a better explanation. Sorry I do not buy your theory..

I've been in Traverus since mid March and I have never had to pay more than the joining fee and because I've been bringing others in all of the time have never had to pay the monthly fee. I've been paid on time and each week my checks have been larger. So could it be that you haven't had anyone signup under you to make any money. They pay the actors because they are also distributors just like I am. You couldn't possibly have all of the information on Traverus or have been on many if any of the conference calls, as that's so important to any business. Traverus provides all the training that you need to succeed and it's up to you what you do with it. I wish you all the success with YTB! There are several aspects of a travel business which are booking travel, fund raising, building an organization of travel agents. Travel is only one aspect, it is the product, which sells itself. No one needs to show you or teach you how to travel. Best product on the market today. Travel increases 23% faster than the world economy. Don't you want to get involved with a company on the move with a fantastic product like travel? It is a 7 Trillion dollar industry due to double in 2010. Best product on the market today and it will keep growing with the baby bomoers retiring one every eight seconds. They have the time and the money to travel. 60 million travel last year and 85% booked on the world wide web.

The more Travel Agents there are the more buying power, the more travel cruises, vacations packages, air, condo rentals, car rentals, hotels etc booking more business. The more business we drive into the vendors/consolidators the lower the price. It is a very diversified industry. We also get discounts at resorts when we buy from the hotel gift shops etc keeping in mind they do not have to give a discounts but they do very often.

Hi folks, HAPPY SUNDAY to ALL.

When a company goes public and sells stock it only means one thing..THEY NEED MONEY!
Who buys the stock..of course the people involved in the company selling the stock. When 1 million shares are sold to by the owner to buy a building, there is something wrong. Think about the writer of the original article here. If there were no RED FLAG none of us would be here posting, correct or not?

I'm only making a suggestion to just take a look and check out your competition, nothing more. Competition is great, it separates the men from the boys.
Anyone have this answer, I'm just curious? Why would approx. over 500 people jump over to another company if it the company they were with is so GREAT? THERE IS A REASON FOR IT WOULDN'T YOU SAY? You do not have anyone in our company going to yours..does that tell you something or not? What am I missing here? You have nothing to lose, everything to gain if it is your choice to just check it out.

CNN, The most biased news reporting there is and everyone knows it.

Listen folks who are looking for a secure place to hang your hat. We have over 500 people from YTB but YTB DOES NOT have ANY of us in yours. That tells me volumes, you know it and we all know it. I've talked to many who dropped out because your drop out rate is 78%. That tells me something is wrong. How many do you think are willing to part with the high price of joining at the rate of $499.95.. What does one get for that kind of money.. promises that people buy into and then are so sorry. I have them on my phone every day, my phone rings off the wall with people who made nothing, lost their shirt in fact and bought YOUR stocks and lost so much money in that. I wouldn't watch CNN if you paid me. They are the worst reporting ever.
