  • Ikea lifts minimum wage, adding pressure to McDonald's, Wal-Mart [View news story]
MacDonald's CEO makes $9247.00 per hour. I wonder if that affects the price of their products.

  • Ikea lifts minimum wage, adding pressure to McDonald's, Wal-Mart [View news story]
@ Ruby, with all due respect, I don't believe you. I have a family member in the business and he pays his front-line employees $17/hr because, as he says, "I get enthusiastic and trustworthy people who really value their job, who keep my customers happy and loyal and make me a lot of money".

He makes more profit doing this than I could ever dream of. And he always adds in a good Christmas bonus. His employees are extremely loyal, theft is zero and his turnover is negligible.

And he is proud of what he is doing for these people. He holds his head high in our small community.

$9 per hour? $10 per hour? Almost $11 per hour??? This is ridiculous greed. I pay the kid who pulls weeds in my garden and cuts the grass $15/hr. These companies make massive amounts of money on the backs of the poor and should give them a decent living wage, not the absolute minimum.

  • Netflix: The Impact Of The Recent Price Rise [View article]
Comparing Netflix value to my Bell ExpressVu satellite value is a no-brainer. Bell gives me 300 channels (mostly duplicates) and it costs me over $70/month for the 5 channels I actually watch. A single-watch pay-per-view Bell movie is $8.00 or more.

Netflix gives me access to thousands of movies, series and documentaries for a couple of bucks a week, with ZERO advertising.

Netflix, even with a price increase, is one of the greatest entertainment values available today.

  • Apple's Italian Tax Woes Are Just The Tip Of The Iceberg [View article]
Italy has a 22% VAT. The Italian government is already taking more than their share from every Apple device and service sold. Adding more taxes will make sales fall further and more jobs will be lost.

  • Qualcomm Is Compelling Near Support Levels [View article]
@kBoy - a quick glance at the QCOM chart shows obvious support and resistance levels and the stock has been channeling between these since August. If you cannot see such well-defined levels then your comment says more about you than the author.

The author has made me aware of some things I did not know about recent events with QCOM, so the article certainly was not useless to me.

  • Hey Bears, Is Tesla Cheap Enough Yet? [View article]
@Jeffry: "...- the gas tank doesn't cover the entire bottom of a car."

My minivan has a long, flat 90L gas tank that occupies half the passenger area under the car, including right under the driver's seat. It is plastic, totally exposed to road hazards and totally unprotected. If I ever hit a three-pronged trailer hitch at highway speeds, I and all my passengers would be toast before we got the door open.

  • Burn after reading: Another Model S fire [View news story]
Let's first require bringing gas tank protection up to the level of Tesla battery protection and possibly we could have survivable ICE car fires too, where the occupants have time to exit the vehicle.

My mini-van has an unprotected 90L plastic gas tank mounted under the drivers seat. If road debris punctured it and the sparks ignited it, I would be toast before I could get the door open.

  • Tesla's New Battery Supply Contract - Trick Or Treat? [View article]
Don, just eliminating that PCM circuit board was a huge savings. Every cell normally MUST have it to prevent runaway fires; in fact you cannot purchase this cell without also buying the circuit board.

  • Tesla's New Battery Supply Contract - Trick Or Treat? [View article]
Don, Tesla has dozens of innovative patents that lower cost, increase life, and/or increase safety as well as build a moat. They are easy to Google, but here's one that I think is ingenious:
