  • Vector Group and Liggett Group Reach Comprehensive Settlement on Engle Tobacco Litigation in Florida [View article]
You're 100% correct. The government loves trying to force medical costs onto the companies while at the same time allowing them to sell a product they pass special taxes on. These lawsuits are junk, but good to get out of the way

  • Gold Takes Out Major Support: Next Stop $1,350 [View article]
Can't help but laugh at this. Yes, some companies have huge returns but what about so many more that fall to pieces or nothing. What if I told you in 2000 don't go buy gold stick it all in Enron they are returning so much and at $90 they could be on way to $90,000!!

  • Inflation is under control but the Fed is "missing tremendously" when it comes to addressing the unemployment side of its dual mandate. That was Charles Evans' familiar message to the Richmond Fed's Jeffrey Lacker Tuesday night at a dinner event. Lacker, who has dissented more times than not in his FOMC voting career, fired back, saying his expectations are not sanguine regarding the Fed's ability to "dial down" expected inflation once it has been "dialed up." [View news story]
I laughed at first with these inflation lies but now it is just sad. Go to the grocery store and tell someone there isn't much

  • Gold concluded another crummy quarter, finishing Q1 at $1594.80, down $80/oz., or 4.8%. Combined with its downbeat end to 2012, gold has dropped 10% over the past two quarters for its first back-to-back quarterly drop since 2001. The metal's 1.1% gain for March offers a bit of hope for gold bugs, but it has dropped in four of the past five sessions and 12 of the past 18 weeks. [View news story]

  • By a 75-24 margin, the Senate has passed a non-binding vote of approval for a bill allowing states to collect sales taxes from online retailers with $1M+  in annual sales and no presence within a given state's borders. The margin of victory suggests a filibuster shouldn't be a problem when a binding vote is made. Amazon (AMZN) and eBay (EBAY) have already begun collecting in a number of large states, and many investors have already assumed collections will expand in time. (previous[View news story]

  • Miles Kimball makes the case for a third term for Ben Bernanke: He “has developed an unparalleled skill in explaining and defending controversial monetary policy measures to Congress and to the public. The most important ways in which U.S. monetary policy has fallen short in the last few years are because of the limits Congress has implicitly and explicitly placed on the Fed.” [View news story]
So if I can BS my way out of something I should be appointed to it...even if I am destroying the country. Ben belongs one place...behind bars!

Agree on VGR. I still hold a few share, but I have held them for 8 years I think now...and just collect the div but not a company I would buy into

They always are borrowing a ton to keep the div up there as their business is drying up

  • Why I Am Long First Solar [View article]
Only way I could see being long here is if you thought the government would keep pouring endless money into solar, but I think that really isn't an option right now. There are a million better energy plays out there that aren't 100% risk
