I got into the market just before the infamous October '87; never understood the meaning and/or feeling of "cold shower" until then. I kept all the 5 stocks I bought (30K each) for the long term. After 5-7 years the 4 of them gave me almost zero return; only one return over 500%. Now, almost 25 years later, I've learned a lot of lessons; how many I applied? few if not any. I believe that anyone who writes for or against a company/stock has an ax to grind so I take the "analysis" with a huge grain of salt. I was fortunate in my profession to deal with many companies and individuals from around the world. I choose stocks based on my experience in dealing with the company (domestic and international). I avoid "foreign" stocks and coined acronyms (BRIC etc) as well as stocks from countries whose nationals did not impress me for their candor . So far so good as long as I keep my expectations in check.
