The last buying opportunity of this type that I seized helped me to achieve my life-long goal to invest my money until it's all gone.

  • Apple: Net Income Growth Is The Name Of The Game [View article]
    To quote the Bard:

"...the market has no reason to adjust the current trading range of the shares until positive net income growth returns and management displays the new product cards the company is holding. Net income growth is the name of the game for Apple.

Disclosure: The author is long Apple shares"

So, how bad can AAPL be if the author sees fit to put his money where his mouth isn't?

P Man: The poisonous substance was believed to be water, not ethanol. So, what other substance would you recommend as a placebo for water in the control experiment?

    Just asking.

  • Zalicus Improves Balance Sheet, Focuses On Z944 [View article]
What can I say? I'm still stuck with this bow-wow.
The primary value of ZLCS is expected to reveal itself when I bail out at the end of 2014 and thereby establish a long-term capital loss. If only I had a nice gain in some other stock to balance the loss, I'd be absolutely thrilled. Instead, to paraphrase the late Fats Waller, "ZLCS, you're only slightly less than wonderful".
Meanwhile: RocketPower2323, you just might be on to something there.

  • Galena Biopharma: Numerous Red Flags Suggest A Significant Overvaluation [View article]
I'm a big fan of the scientific method and the necessity of performing control experiments in order to validate a hypothesis. In order to establish my theory that water is poisonous, I once sponsored a control experiment in which 25 subjects were administered a series of one-ounce oral infusions of a 50% v/v solution of distilled water in absolute ethanol. The results of the control experiment provided undeniable confirmation of my hypothesis.

GALE appears to be one of the most heavily manipulated among small biotech companies. Since the price swings are so large (percentage-wise), a nimble trader can make money off each announced catalyst (= hype). GALE offers a wonderful stock to play with as long as one bears the following in mind: (i) You're gambling rather than investing. (ii) You're sitting at a large round table in a Texas Hold-em competition beside seasoned opponent players, many of whom have very deep pockets and high tolerance for risk; (iii) If you set aside the dream of making a killing for a moment, consider the possibility that you could lose your entire investment. Hey, what's not to like?

  • If AT&T's CEO Is Right, Apple Is In The Perfect Spot. But Can It Keep The Lead? [View article]
Who said anything about GOOG? Since you brought 'em up, I can tell you that I take the same attitude toward GOOG that you do, DrainO.

As judged by their stock price-action I can only assume that GOOG, like a Los Angeles used car salesman, loses money on every acquisition but makes it up in the volume.

If anyone's keeping score, this suggests that each of us merits the title: "Baron of Graymatter".

  • If AT&T's CEO Is Right, Apple Is In The Perfect Spot. But Can It Keep The Lead? [View article]
Post-Jobs AAPL became a different company, now run by businessmen rather than innovators. The brain-trust has been replaced by a cash-cow. As a result, AAPL focuses upon maximizing profits on current products with only a glance at the tech horizon.

Sure, China will give an immediate, substantial boost to profits, but even a country with 1.2B people can't support AAPL forever. And, I really don't think that folks in a developing country will continue to upgrade when AAPL rolls out iPhoneMCMXLIV.

So, what's new? Silly trinkets like an iWatch? A smart TV that does what your computer does but offers a larger screen? (If you have HDMI ports on your computer and on your HD TV you can hook 'em up with a $2 cable and, bingo, you've got yourself a smart TV!).

Clara Peller's "Where's the beef?" would seem to apply here.

Meanwhile, a nimble investor playing with stock options can make out OK while AAPL stock dithers within a 100-point range.

    What's not to like?

I'm putting all my money on "placebo".

Another good bet: the mechanical rabbit that leads the pack of greyhounds and whippets around a dog track.

I also like two-heads coins, which can be purchased on eBay.

Even better than red/black, aren't they?

Perhaps AMBS will emulate the penny postcard?

I admire the attitude of that BehindTheLens guy who sunk $1K into AMBS with very low expectations. Like Billy Martin in the old Lite Beer commercials, he seems to feel very strongly both ways.
