If SLW is the prime example of this type of project, why do you think SLW has receded in it's stock price from approximately 47.5 in April
2011 to it's present price of 20.58. For full disclosure, I own both,
SNDXF and STTYF, and intend to hold them both for the long term!

  • Debunking Dividend Agnostic Assumptions: Here's What Really Makes Income Investors Tick [View article]
Do not get tricked by accepted financial statement nomenclature or semantics. Assets of a corporation whether cash or any other item are part of the Corporations total assets. If a dividend payment is made to the shareholders, and the price of the stock is reduced by the dividend amount, and the stock price does not increase from that point on, it is a return of principle. The investors, whether income or capital gains investors, have to make the same judgment's about management, and the future of the company. The thought processes are the same, it is the handling of the stock volatility that differs.

  • Debunking Dividend Agnostic Assumptions: Here's What Really Makes Income Investors Tick [View article]
Why should dividends not be considered a return of principle when the price of the stock is reduced by the dividend on the x/Dvd date? Especially if the stock price does not increase after the x/Dvd date?

Doesn't the Dvd payment reduce the cost basis of the stock and make the Tax consideration higher when selling, in addition to paying tax on the Dvd distribution?

  • "It's a technical mess all over the world," according to chart expert Louise Yamada. She says virtually all the global markets, with the exception of Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and "a few U.S. markets," have triggered long-term sell signals. Her advice: "Rallies would be best used to lighten some positions."  [View news story]
Thanks Louise. Your comments are always worthwhile. I remember you from, Smith Barney. Your technical work was always excellent!

TINY, large volume and price % increase! This occurs coincident with a paid for research report, in the face of a very negative chart pattern!
TINY is approximately the same price it was in 1993! The shareholders have received nothing in that period of time! Probably OK very long term! Usually sells at a premium to its net asset value.

  • Here's a Third Way to Determine When You Have Enough to Retire [View article]
    To: David Van Knapp
Looking a little deeper into the requirement for a three year cash fund, one should consider the possibility of a Cyber attack on the infrastructure of the financial institutions and the internet, however remote! Having, for example, 1/2 of the cash position in a major banking institution and 1/2 in the trading account, could make it easier to have access to cash in case of an extreme emergency! To first liquidate a position and obtain the cash might prove difficult on a timely basis!
