    • New ETF Tracking IPOs Launching Today (FPX) [view article]
i see IPO's as dubious investments. aren't IPO's one of the possible explanations of the small-growth anomoly (the anomoly beign that SG so terribly underperforms what's expected from it's famma-french factors). Apr 13 01:23 PM
    • No Capital Gains Payout Worries for iShares ETF Holders (DVY, EEM, EFA, EWJ) [view article]
the zero capital gains is of course great, but it will be interesting to see if they improve on the non-qualified dividend problem that recently has become known. Dec 27 12:59 PM

      hi JD:

i'm not following your comment on small having higher PE. looking at iShares website for IVV and IJR shows small and large having about the same PE. addmittedly, this may not be the most authorative measure of PE. where do you get such valuation information?

agreed. i've always been amused that often he seems to be selling low and buying high. particularly amusing was the way he had used IEF to extend his bond duration, and it didn't work. the worst part is the reason why he did it: because Bill Gross said so. i like Tim Middleton and enjoy his columns, i just hope, as you stated, that readers don't put too much stock into his etf portfolio or try to copy it or base investment decisions off of it. over a statistically significant length of time, probably any reasonable fixed (rebalanced) combination of foreign and domestic stocks and bonds will beat his portfolio. strategic asset allocation is just another form of active managemet, and on average, necessarily, will fail.

strange that they have so little mid and small cap such that the US equities portion is essentially total-stock market, replaceable with a simple TSM fund.

also, why LQD? in an efficient-frontier sense, that is longer than you want your bond duration to be.

perhaps they give more detailed portfolio advice to paying customers.
