  • Amazon Flails Wildly [View article]
LOVE THE COMPANY, DESPISE THE STOCK. Thanks for all the well written comments, heated debate. As far as I'm concerned both bulls and bears can make a valid case, thus a MARKET.

However, from the ten thousand foot view it is obvious world economies, stock market, interest rates, etc are being artificially propped up and there are a lot of awfully scaring charts/graphs out there. If the last week is isn't a wake up call, precursor for things to come sooner than later, then we are ALL drinking the wine AGAIN.

And BTW, if the GDP slips further, consumer confidence wains, interest rates and taxes rise precipitately, competition assaults their models, etc...we all know it could get very ugly for AMZN and their flailing world of razor thin margins.

Funny how you have to go back to '09 & '10 to make your point Gary. My point is they continually shave their projected numbers the last 8 quarters bc they have to in order to sandbag and not have egg on their face.

It seizes to amaze me how articles like this by Fusion ignore AMZN mgmt and analysts constantly lowering their earnings & revenue guidance and looking to these types of panaceas like AWS to solve their feeble margins and lack of profitability for over a decade now. They continue to desperately seek ways to make money. The phone business is next.

While Bezos is a visionary he has yet to prove he knows how to make a profit and keeps going head to head w/ companies and industries that specialize in segments where they already make substantial profits, i.e. Goog, AAPL, WALMART, EBAY. The hall passes are all being used up.

Investing at this price, multiple is high risk!!!

  • No shutdown for shares of Netflix in early trading [View news story]
It's stocks like NFLX with the greater fool theory that confirm what a sham the stock market, wall street institutions and analyst crooks are all about. There is no grip on reality.

The company has gone from $70 to $320 in 10 months with 1 "OK" quarter where they made a .49 cent profit. A $15B increase in market cap for what is essentially a distribution company that is overpaying for product. WHAT A JOKE

Investing Insight, thanks for your evalution. I follow your logic and metrics; the problem is there is no logic other than momentum which I am finding is a very dangerous trend!

The question I have is related to NFLX expense?
"Operating margins increased significantly from 1.80% to 5.33% during the most recent quarter."

This doesn't even begin to include all of their programming & content costs,,,so where the hell is NFLX burying all of their content costs and how are they getting away with putting their library on their balance sheet as an asset when they don't own the content?

Your right Research Cow profit actually does matter and it's naïve to say it doesn't.

mkarstens AWS is keeping them afloat but another couple of outages and low margins aren't working in their favor.

Gary I hope you are taking profits be there will be a day of reckoning; or are you also on Bezos payroll also? You constantly tout their stock price at an N/A PE?!

Amazing how short memories are...everyone's drinking the wine AGAIN; and it's starting to feel like the .bomb era again! Not only AMZN, but the broader US market has come way too far based on many suspect (at best) metrics, namely a world economy in recession. Countries paying off debt w/ debt. Major municipalities under-funded Chicago, NYC on the heals on Motown.

While you emphasize that AMZN gross revenues could increase this year there are a plethora of things, namely competition, economy, debt, free cash flow, unemployment, interest rates, taxes, operation costs, fuel costs, stock based compensation, foreign exchange rates, 3P dissatisfaction, litigation, etc. that could have a continued negative affect on AMZN's already " staggeringly abysmal" net profit.

Guide downs, 9/10 miss earnings, phantom revenue, non-capitalized expenses, stock based compensation, tax breaks, are all part of their top line game. AMZN is desperately seeking revenue by any means possible to keep the story alive and let's face it their margins SUCK.

Sentiment works well for a while until it doesn't anymore. There will come a time when earnings do matter and AMZN will correct.
The institutions and the analysts are in bed w/ Bezos and it's really starting to reek. Speaking of which I'm very surprised they are not into medical marijuana YET?

Anybody that chases it up to your target at this level is a sucker (unless you are playing with the house money or have a low basis).

p.s. I would love to be long this stock at $80?!?! But in the meantime I will keep my Short on (based on 1.5% short interest)and continue to sell near term OTM Put and Call spreads to fund.

  • Amazon: Long, Short Or Agnostic? [View article]
What I'm saying Jay is their non-GAAP acct principles are immoral at best. This Q they account for 3P revenues 100% to dramatically increased #'s w/ no benefit to bottom line. NOt to mention they soak their 3P merchants w/ slow pay (many of which are getting fed up). They also have huge buried liabilities for buildings and content.

It may be two more yrs, but I cannot wait for day this stock crashes!
