  • Intel Q3 Earnings Beat Overshadowed By Future Prospects [View article]
I write scientific manuscripts and books containing results from my research. There is no way I'm going compose on my iPad or my iPhone (God forbid!!!). PCs are here to stay. But at what level? And there is the cloud. Would I like to have none of the above, or a brain implant where I could take my notes and write my paper in the cloud by just thinking!! It's the cloud baby!! And INTC is at the center of the storm!!!! Or so I've been told.

  • Dec. ADP Jobs Report: +297K vs. +100K expected and +92K prior (revised from +93K). The pace of job growth was "well above what is usually associated with a declining unemployment rate... After a mid-year pause, employment seems to have accelerated."  [View news story]
Here is a truth if ADP predicts a sustainable truth: Higher Interest Rates! Much Higher! A dead housing market. More defaults by consumers.Less spending. Less corporate growth. More unemployment. It's debt not employment that is the elephant in the room..

Has one ADP report solved state and local budgetary problems? These layoffs are starting to be reported. This will be big, and bad, don't yea think?

  • No Pressure On Interest Rates [View article]
One way to boost demand is to bypass the banks and send me and my fellow Americans monthly tax-free checks. We might pay some debt off, but you can bet we'll spend it! Jobs will be created and the global economy will get out of the ICU? If the Fed is going to print money, get it directly to the consumer. There is another way. Eliminate the income tax. Put in a VAT. That will broaden the tax base and put spending and taxation in the hands of the people.

  • The Bearish Case For Level 3 Communications [View article]
I don't remember the specifics, but in general I recall that some LVLT bond holders exchanged a large dollar value of their bonds for LVLT stock. In bankruptcy the bond holder can expect to get something back from the liquidation process. The stock holder gets nothing. I viewed this move as a vote of confidence in LVLT. Or perhaps those bond holders need a mental exam! I doubt the latter.

  • Ultra Petroleum (UPL -4.2%) dips after Stifel Nicolaus cut its rating on the shares to Hold, citing a diminished outlook for natural gas prices. The firm notes that 96% of the company's volumes are in natural gas, so it's likely management will have to cut spending plans if prices remain near or below current levels.  [View news story]
The natural gas market reminds me of the gold market when it was 200 an oz for years. No one wanted it, except those now very wealthy investors who kept buying it. Nat gas is being ignored due to the coal and railroad lobby. One day we will all wake up to the "Crude" reality that we have made a mistake by not developing nat gas in the U.S. The question for a company like UPL is whether it can survive.
