Just think of all the ramifications to regimes that rely on oil to keep their people happy and themselves in power -- Venezuela, Ecuador, Angola, Nigeria, Russia, and so on. Could be some very interesting days ahead.

Anyone uncomfortable with specific biotech stocks may want to take a look at XBI and FTB -- two of the better performing ETFs in that area. Yellin gave us a great opportunity a few months ago. Wish I had gotten into them instead of stocks like LINE and SDRL.

Seems to me that Cramer was pushing TASR a few months ago. Got into that too late, too. He does have some winners sometimes.

I thought food and energy (electricity, gasoline, other motor fuels, fuel oil) were in the CPI.

I recently read that cheap gasoline was putting pressure on the ethanol producers. Gasoline is cheaper than that stuff or moving in that direction. Every month or so, I'll fill up with pure gasoline ("non-highway use"), but even last week it was $4.39 -- whatever the market will bear.

I am still really surprised that gasoline prices fell so fast. Would have thought it would have been much more gradual. Sure has hasn't helped my LINE/LNCO or SDRL! Supposedly, things are out of balance by only 2.5% or less.

One major factor: Energy stocks are very much over-sold, and these two giants are probably less risky than many smaller and much riskier energy companies.

Today's WSJ has an article entitled "China Ends Rare-Earth Minerals Export Quotas."

In one place its says: "But since then (U.S., European Union & Japan 2012 complaint) the world has reduced its reliance on the minerals (REEs) from China, which until recent years produced about 93% of the world’s rare earths. China’s share of global rare-earth output has fallen to around 86% as other producers amped up supply. China’s exports now frequently fall short of maximum levels under the quota system."

  • Update: Seadrill's Partner Rosneft Will Postpone Drilling Of Several Arctic Projects [View article]
For the very reasons I bought SDRL, I think it will be among the first to recover. These are not dumb people running SDRL. I tried averaging down but stopped when I had averaged down to $34 and change. As I wait for the recovery (2016?) I'm planning to sell some of those high-priced shares I own and buy back some in 31+ days later. I very much doubt if it will be too much higher then than now.

  • Update: Taser Announces Initial LAPD Order For AXON Body Cameras [View article]
Pasco County, the county just north of St. Petersburg/Tampa, announced w/in the last week that its sheriff's department will begin using 400 Taser cameras in February. I find it very hard to be anything but bullish about TASR's future.

On CNBC's FastMoney yesterday, they mentioned Taser's cameras as one of the possible competitors to GoPro.

  • Seadrill: Are Class Action Lawsuits Sending Seadrill's Share Price Into The Single Digits? [View article]
Don't equate share price with the financial health of a company -- there may not be any correlation.

The decision to suspend the dividend indicates how cautious SDRL is about the near future. It had to be a tough decision, but if it keeps the company healthy during a tough time, management deserves a lot of credit for doing what they thought was necessary..

  • Cautionary Signs For Taser's 4th Quarter [View article]
Most of what I've read indicate that body-cams seriously reduce complaints against police. Aren't many police forces adopting on their own? Supposedly TASR is way out ahead with the hardware, software and infrastructure. I'd think 2015 will be a very good one.

SP, it's the GROWTH in the demand for oil that's slowing. Production is up, some economies are slowing, so that's natural. Let's not let distortion contribute to a bearish outlook.

Down to $4.60 before the open this AM, but it's reassuring to see after the open, it's in the mid-$5s. Could have made some quick profits.

Samsung stealing from Apple? Actually, I think it was Google taking the idea from Apple (Google CEO on Apple's BOD) and giving FOR FREE to any and all. Apple spends millions developing their iOS, and Samsung, HTC, Sony and others get Android for nada.
