  • Seadrill's Future Comes Into Focus Upon Expiration Of Rosneft Breakup Rights [View article]
SP, it's the GROWTH in the demand for oil that's slowing. Production is up, some economies are slowing, so that's natural. Let's not let distortion contribute to a bearish outlook.

Down to $4.60 before the open this AM, but it's reassuring to see after the open, it's in the mid-$5s. Could have made some quick profits.

Samsung stealing from Apple? Actually, I think it was Google taking the idea from Apple (Google CEO on Apple's BOD) and giving FOR FREE to any and all. Apple spends millions developing their iOS, and Samsung, HTC, Sony and others get Android for nada.

  • Update: InvenSense Q2 2015 Earnings [View article]
At about 10:31 INVN had already experienced a 6 1/2% jump, but had dropped to between a 1 and 2% increase. I was wondering what had caused that spike.

When they pinned Gartman down about $10 oil, he seemed embarrassed. $10 oil was probably just his way of getting some more air-time on CNBC.

Somewhere I have read that Kyocera uses sapphire in their phones.

When I was buying my iP6 at T-Mobile a couple weeks ago, they were tossing some smartphone on the hard floor w/o damage. I didn't think to ask about it.

According to the WSJ, Apple was working w/ GTAT so that they would qualify for the final payment due the end of this month. Really strange!

  • Corning Gorilla Glass Retains Its Dominance Over GT Advanced Technologies' Sapphire [View article]
Good question. Today's WSJ says Apple "already uses sapphire from other manufacturers" for the small iP6 parts -- camera & fingerprint reader.

The WSJ article says Apple was surprised by the Chapter 11 and had been working w/ GTAT to keep it solvent.

In August, GTAT claimed it would have nearly $400m at the end of 2014, but then they said they only had $85m as of 9/29. Very curious.

"Bendgate" is a tempest in a teapot. Consumer Reports says there are tougher and weaker phones out there, but they don't think this is a problem. The BBC did a phone-in-the-back-pocket test, granted not scientific, and found no problem.

If you put your mind and muscle to it, you can damage/destroy anything. Everyone takes potshots at the leader.

Yeah, but Pavel made it sound as though it was a BIG surprise to everyone other than Apple when sapphire was not in the iP6. When GTAT gave guidance last month, that information was known to them -- probably had been known for months.

Apple's vendors don't wake up the morning after Apple's product launches and say, "Oh, gee, our XXX didn't get in the new iGadget."
