RS and Chris, two of my absolute favorites! First, RS let me say that I wish you a complete and speedy recovery and you are on my prayer list. I am a (almost elderly) woman who, when I suddenly lost my husband several years ago, was left with the dilemma of having to either self-manage the investment portfolios, or turn them over to someone else. After one visit with a financial advisor who came highly recommended, and whose advice was that I should buy an annuity and non-traded REIT in CA (this was late 2007, mind you), I thanked him and left. I've been on my own ever since, even surviving the crash, investing solely in dividend paying stocks. When I discovered SA, your articles and those of the other wonderful writers who favor investing in dividends, I finally felt like "I can do this!" Thank you, thank you!!!!

"there is no malpractice insurance needed and no huge lawsuit payouts.".....there's the major answer for what's wrong with healthcare in the U.S. Go back to free market so people can know what they are paying for any given procedure, doctor's visit, etc. Nobody knows (or cares) anymore because some third party somewhere is paying the fill. The patient has absolutely no input!
