Surviving The Netflix Implosion: What's Next?
I like the author dropped cable tv. I now spend more on a higher bw internet service and sub to NFLX. The price is lower than I was paying for cable+internet plus no commercials. The content suks on NFLX, but by adding the free video from sites like hulu, cbs, nbc and abc, I have more control of my time and content. My kids are better behaved now -- no commercials means no nagging for stuff all the time. They have more time to do homework and read as they're not tied to a tv schedule.
NFLX has first mover advantage. How many devices are support NFLX? More than any other service. There's a limited amount of space on these devices for competing services.
Comcast, and other cabletv services restrict where you can watch their programs (only at home).
NFLX should use their platform advantage to combine PPV with Streaming. Add a third party selling program to allow direct publishing on the site for content owners bypassing the distributors. Why couldn't they use their platform to copy the itunes model?
